I thought I remember the vet telling me that they don't test for heart worm before 1 yr. old.
I just got an 8 mo. old pup and would like to know if I need to get him tested before starting him on Ivomec ?
Thanks for any info...

That young, you are pretty safe starting him on Ivomec. Even IF he has them, they shouldn't be developed enough to do any harm if treated. It has been winter, not too many skeeters out that time of year. I would dose per weight of the dog.

Go ahead and start him on Ivomec, winter is just passing and he is still a pup.

I had a eight month test positive once so the vet told me not to give him anything with Ivomec in it. Then, guess what he treated him with ?????????? I agree with Emory and Kim but I would suggest you not run him for a few days just to be safe. If he develops a cough, keep him confined until it goes away - a couple of weeks. The dead worms and larvae are filter out through the lungs. Best wishes!

I gave it to him a few days ago and he seems fine. Now I'll wait a couple of weeks and hit him with the safe-guard...
Thanks for the replies.
