with parvo if it is parvo the prognosis is not good for a pup even withvet care. takes intensive iv fluid and someantibiotic. IT IS NOT WELL SUITED FOR DO IT YOURSELF CARE. AND IT IS EXPENSIVE FOR A VET TO DO IT
How did you diagnose parvo?

Home care of a parvo pup is difficult and heartbreaking. Very young puppies don't have a very good chance (even at the vets) even with the best of care. If you are going to attempt to care for a parvo pup at home, be prepared for a loss. I have cared for a litter with parvo and I was up at all hours giving Sub Q fluids, antibiotics, antinausa medications, oral pedialyte, etc.... The final count.... lost 3, saved 2. I was heartbroken, but felt good that the two survived.
Vet care was not an option for me financially, but knew I had the skills to tend to their needs at home. One thing that is frustrating for me is the vets will rarely give you the meds you need for home care (injectables), so we are forced to use oral meds which are less effective as the pups will vomit them back up before they are absorbed.
Parvo is a bad virus to have to deal with and can live in the environment for up to several years under proper conditions. The only thing that will kill it that is readily available is bleach and it must be mixed as a 9% solution or stronger. When caring for pups with parvo, take extreme measure to sanitize every thing you touch (and yourself) after caring for them. Even your clothes and shoes can carry the virus.
On a good note, parvo rarely effects older dogs. Parvo virus affects rapidly developing cells (ie:quick growing pups), so older dogs (over 9 months) rarely get parvo even if exposed. There is a shot available for dogs as young as 3 weeks old, but the maternal antibodies can conflict with the vaccine and make it uneffective, but if you have a pup that you are hand raising that hasn't nursed it's mother, then you will want to consider this vacccine for sure.
Good luck!

I just had a bout with parvo last week. Take your dog to the vet. They kept mine for 2 days and she is home with me now and has all of her spunk back and seems to be doing very well. My total bill was $168. She could turn out to be a great rabbit beagle and I would have never known if I hadnt taken her to the vet. Small price to pay in my book. Good luck. Do a search on Parvo on here. Someone had mentioned to me last week about putting clorox in their water, but I dont remember the dosage. Plus, mine wouldnt even drink water, that is why it is important to get her to the vet and get an IV in her. Hope your pup makes it through. Good luck!

MrWVSportsman,
WHO IS YOUR VET!!!!! I wish I could find one that only charged $168.00 for any treatment, much less parvo. When I took the first pup to the vet, the ESTIMATE (and they stated it was JUST and estimate) was $1200.00 for one puppy. Of course they were completely up front on the little ones chances as about 20/80 for survival. I spent over $200 just taking her in and getting the necessary meds and fluids for home treatment.
I am glad it worked out for you. So many are lost to parvo (especially the very young ones).
Clorox in the water is a good idea to prevent all types of nasty stuff (coccidia, enteritis, etc). Just use about 1cc per gallon of water.

OK mcdaniel! Ive got your treatment, and alot of beaglers are going to read this and say NUTS! but I know it works. If your pups still alive and has reasonably good restperation try this! Get some plain yogurt, get a large 8cc syringe put 4cc of yogurt in the syringe and start force feeding the pup. You are going to lose at least half of the yogurt but thats ok all your're doing is lining the throat and stomach. Now the hard part!! put 1cc of clorox in the syring and force it down the pups throat. I know it sounds crule, but you want to save the pup don't you? Wait 24 hours have water and food available for the pup. If it starts to drink water that is a good sign. I recomend giving a shot containing 1cc procaine and 1.5cc B-complex. At the first sign of regained strength, At that point the pup is on it's way to recovery! Good Luck Keep Us Posted On The Pups Progress

Did you go to the vet to have it confirmed this was parvo?
How did you keep them from dehydrating? I've seen parvo kill healthy 3 month old pups in 24 hrs. A friend of mine had a 14 month old that had never gotten shots, come down with it and die. His mother was puting out feed for him while they were bring in crops. after a couple days she told him the pup wasn't eatting, he pulled it out of the dog box and was shocked to see the hound was a bag of bones. It spent a day an a half at the vets and died. Thats the oldest I know of dieing with it.
Glad your puppies are doing well, they must of had some immunity from the shots you gave to have done so well.
All the best...Patch
