i think thats what its called.took my 9 month old pup to vet he beeen looking ruf i put some sulfadene oh him seemed to help some but not good so i carried to vet ,, he didnt give me much hope. anybody had any luck cureing this ??i am so upset.these pups show a whole lot of promise.is it contagious?

Demodex is not contagious, but it is hereditary. This does not mean, however, that all the pups in a litter will "come down" with demodetic mange.
Immune system weaknesses and stress are triggers for outbreaks. It is advised that any dogs that become "infected" with demodex should be spay or neutered as to not pass along the "weakness".

It can be very difficult to treat, but with persistance, most pups will clear up. Some will never have another outbreak, while others will with any stressor (change in diet, breeding, environment, etc).

i am treating therm with everything in the book i gonna heal it or kill it ...i got a friend say he had a dog that had it he treated it with ivomec small dose for a long time and cured it.

You need to dip the dogs in a solution containing Amitraz.Vets have it but you can do it yourself and much cheaper.Find a feed store that carries the product called"Taktic"it is used for control of the mange mite on cattle and swine.Make a mixture of 9ml to 1 gallon of water and dip or sponge on your dogs.[9ml equal 1.8 teaspoons]

One of my friends had this problem once, and the vet told him how to cure it. The vet told him it was the red mange.
The vet gave his 25 lb beagle a shot under the skin of 1 full cc of Ivermectin, and told James to give this same dose, (1cc) every week for 5 weeks. James did this, and after the 3rd week, the dog started looking better. After the 4th week, it had alot more hair growth, and after the 5th week, he said you would have never known anything was wrong with this dog. Also, it never did come back.
I asked another vet about this story that James had told me. He said that it is very hard to overdose a dog with Ivermectin, and that this 5 week thing wouldn't hurt. Only thing is,(and you all know this) if it has heartworms, one dose could kill it.

Might be worth trying.

I just bought some stuff called Nu-Stock from Bill Boatman's..... It claims to "Cure" Red Mange. The pictures in the phamplet were very complelling...

I HAD A SMALL LITTER OF 4 PUPS. 2 OF THE 4 HAD DEMODEX MANGE CONFIRMED BY A VET. I TREATED MINE ON HER ADVICE WITH IVOMEC LIQUID 1/10 CC ORALLY EVERY DAY FOR 28 DAYS. I WOULD HOLLOW OUT A HOTDOG WITH A STRAW AND INJECT IT IN THE HOLLOW PART.
THIS WAS TWO YEARS AGO AND THE MALE I HAVE GREW ALL THE HAIR BACK AND HAS NEVER HAD A PROBLEM SINCE.

i am treating with ivomec small dose everyday hopefully all will be ok hate to dip when its this cold..have to usde a hair dryer to dry them lol

Hi Red,
Bunny runner gives good advice. A week immune system shouldn't be bred from. It's why even when we give shots in a timely manner, some still come down with the disease, they don't have the immune strength to build up resistance to the virus.
Be sure to let the person you got the pups from, know your having this problem...Patch

Sorry to say this Red but those pups should never be bred nor should that cross be made again. It is a genetic characteristic that tends to be passed down generation to generation.

The vet I talked to said that the weak imune system is passed from the female. The one I had was spayed. I personaly would be afraid to breed the male I still own. I will not have to worry about it though because he went 16" and I won't breed him for that reason. It is a shame because the dog has tremendous desire and no regard for his body when running or harking in, as well as a thunderous mouth.
