i have a patch hound that is aprox. 5 months old and just last sat. i noticed that she had a red buldge on her eye. talking to a couple of houndsmen i have learned it is the cherry eye. one of them told me to take a fish hook and hook through it and pull tight and then slice it close to the eyelid with a razor balde.. and i have almost built up enought nerve to do this but was just wanting some last min. advice before i go to cuttin things off my hound........
thanks in advance

Guess I just aint got no nads
you ever have any problems With Dry Eye on those you cut crabby??
that would be my Biggest Worry on one, that the eye wouldnt be able to produce any tears if you happen to compleatly cut away the tear duct.

I wouldn't risk any further injury--I'd go to the vet. A cherry eye is bad, but no eye is worse IMO.

TC,
I cut 1 out of Honey , and 2 out of Candy. I havent seen a problem yet. Candy will matter up from hard running sometimes, but so do the others I havent cut on.

good Deal Mike,
I got to thinking (OW) About this and it makes sence if you pull the Cherry eye out away from the eye you are actually Just pulling out the part of the third eyelid that is efected that would leave the tear duct itself covered and not exposed then right? And as long as you didnt cut to close all you would get is the lid.
oh well i can Stitch up a cut and doctor up thier cuts and such just couldnt bring myself to do the eye I guess...
I Can nueter a cat So you think i would be able to do a cherry eye on a hound... But then Again i Dont LIKE CATS

To remove the cherry eye take the dog to the vet, by the vet doing the procedure the risk of messing up the dogs tear duct is greatly reduced. The dog will be sedated and the cherry eye will be pulled out, clamped then cut off with a scalpal. The procedure is very minor but the risks of perm damage is much less.

I have cut out a bunch. My Dad has cut out more than I can count. He is an" Ole Dog Trader".
The only thing a Vet visit does is cost you $$$ and give you somebody to be mad at should something go wrong.
