Stunted Growth

I have a female that I almost lost when she was 9 weeks old to Coccidia. It was so bad that I was hand feeding her for a couple of days unitl she got her strength back. Long story short she is only 11” at 9 months old, and her two other littermates are solid 13 to 13 ½”.

I have been told by several old timers that she will hit second growth spurt again somewhere between 1 and 2 and should hit 13”.

Has anybody else on here seen something like this and what was the outcome with the dog’s final height compared to the littermates?

Thanks
Steve

I never have seen a beagle grow much in height after a year - just "fill out" or out on a little more weight. She still has a few months and I have seen them grow so fast you can almost see it. Most beagles that have set-backs catch back up. If she goes small, it may just be because she was going to be small anyhow. I have seen 11" to pushing 16" out of the same litter when the sire and dam were "average" size.

thanks Terry.

She is growing but it is no where near the rate that her littermates did. I just hope she gets up to 12.5....i like 13" beagles, so i'll be happy with her no matter what size she ends up being.
