coughing

i have a 9 year old beagle who coughs alot like he's choking,what are some causes and treatments i could use thanks alot
Is this new? A cough can be a sign of a heart problem, heartworms, or just a bug. If the dog is reverse sneezing that is pretty normal for beagles. Could be allergies too.
