My three month old pups penis is out of its sheath, i have never had this happen before. Noticed it Sunday saturday nite, wasn't to alarmed because i have had older males do this but it always went back. What do i do, my vet wasn't open over the weekend. I have been giving him penicillen.

pack it in sugar.. it will draw the swelling down. and this is for real not a joke.. regular granular sugar.. you may have to wrap it for a few minutes.

Get someone to hold the dog on his back and hold all 4 legs at the same time. Take regular granular sugar and pack his penis in it as much as you can get on it. Wrap it in an ace bandage for 15 minutes keeping the penis in the sugar with the bandage. the sugar will draw the edema from the penis. After 15 minutes clean his penis and slip the sheath back over it, no surgery needed. This is not a joke. I took a male to a young female vet and she showed me this trick. I have used it once since and it worked both times. Make sure you get the penis packed with the sugar as much as you can. I had this happen one time and I didn't have anyone to help me. I had to hold all his legs and pack the sugar with the other hand. I thought I was going to have to knock him out to get him to be still. I got as much sugar on the penis as I could and I held it with one hand for 15 minutes. It worked I couldn''t believe it. This is a serious situation. If you do not get it back in he will die. I sure am glad no one came up while I was holdong him down with one hand and holding his penis packed in sugar with the other. They might have shot me on sight. Make sure you get the sugar packed all the way around the penis as much as you can get.

I am 62 years old and have been around dogs since I can remember. I had never seen this happen until about 2 yrs ago, Then it happened 2 times in a year. Seriously I am not kidding and it will save you a visit to the vet and having the surgery done. Ever time I tell someone about this they about die laughing but it works. My vet also told me when they do the surgery it doesn't always work. Sometimes the penis will come right back out.

Have not been on here for a while, but i ended up taking him to my vet. He said it was the worse one he ever saw, he did surgery and put him on antibiotics, he gets his staples out today or tommorrow. Seems to be doing fine now. However, my vet says he will probably never be any good for breeding. But at least he is alive. If i ever have one do this again, i will try the sugar. Thanks to all.

this was a couple yr ago. took mine to vet also. next day he chewed the stitches into and it came back out. vet used staples and muzzled him a few days.
just got a litter from him this yr. kept an eye on him while mating to be sure it never happened again.
