Puppy Food
Was curious to hear what food you al start your puppies on. My litter is 5 wks old now and I'm feeding them pedigree puppy food in a can. My last litter I started them on Mighty Dog in a can. That litter did real good. This litter I am wanting to give them a better quality food than the other. I believe this will be a good litter to get my pack going. I did read about the raw diet which has me interested but I will try to implement when we get moved into my new house.
Re: Puppy Food
At three or four weeks old I take a cup or two at a time of dry puppy chow and blend it up into powder form [if you put more then that in there the blender or my blender at least chokes up and don't do a good job] (generally I will blend up a huge batch of it and keep it in an air tight container so I only have to scoop it out when get ready for feeding time in the blender.) I put 1/2 to 1 cup depending on how many pups 1 cup is enough for 6 to 7 pups at first of powdered up pup chow into pie plate then pour hot tap water on it in a pie plate so it is like soup, the pups lap it up and what they don't eat in the morning and at night I let momma have. As the pups get older I put less water in it and make it thicker, then start adding chunks to it. But I use puppy chow. The pups do great on it and are all fat and sassy.
From Field to Show and Show to Field the way it should be
Re: Puppy Food
Yea I had a friend of mine tell me to do that with puppy chow as well. I think puppy chow has a high protein and fat lvl to boost them. He said the pups would take off on it. I will pick a bag up and try that. They have also been chewing on the moms food as well.
