Thoughts on Blue-Kote/pink ointment

Post by Joeyman »

what do you guys think of this product?

I've got a dog don't know what he stepped on or what happened but he has a little tear on his rear paw in-between the toes at the corners of his pads. looks not that bad but I see that it is a little sore. He runs on it good. I let him run the yard. But in the kennel he light steps with it and I see him lick it every now and again.

Tried EMT gel he licks it off. I've had success with a yellow balm type stuff (dressing) Put that on him and he don't mess with it.

How can I heal over the corner of his pad quicker? I've got aresol Blue-Kote Spray should get here today. Dog is laid up other than running in my backyard a bit. I might try and take him running this weekend not so sure though. It don't seem to bother him when he runs like hell in the backyard.

Would the Blue-Kote help? or protect? Spray it on him everyday?

EMT gel is suppose to be very good but he licks the heck out of it.

I'm afraid that if I run him hard for 5hrs or so saturday and again sunday it might make the sore worse or something. I don't want to deal with this crap entire season. Heal up thru-out the week then break the wound open agian on the weekends while hunting him. (mon-fri i'm stuck in a cube 50hr a week) so that is his down time.

Got to be something out there to help heal faster!

Hey Joey ,the blue coat works pretty good, I would spray it one at least twice a day, just be careful ,once it gets on you, real tough to get off. They used to make it in a thicker liquid with a cotton applicator which worked better, but the spray is ok. Once you are sure the cut is healed, and no infection, I would crazy glue, so will not reopen on you. Good Luck!!!

Joey,
You might try Cut n Heal. It's made for horses, but it seals the wound off, keeping crap out of it. I keep a bottle handy for stuff like that. Don't think he'll lick it either.

Joey, pull up Aurora Animal Clinic, Fairbanks Alaska. They make the ointment for the sled dogs and it works miracles. I think it will cost you about $50.00 for a small tub but it will last you a long time. I have never seen a product work like it does for a dogs feet.

Clean it out with peroxide and super glue the tear shut by putting a little glue in tear, wait 1 min, and squeeze the tear together. Hold it together until its dry then cover it with more super glue. Make sure the glue is dry before letting the dog walk on it. Use the gel glue not the liquid. My dogs dont bother with it being glued shut and covered with glue.

I do the above all the time on feet and ears. I've saved more than one hunt being cut short (pun intended)by having blood stop and a tube of glue with....

I'll use bag balm on their feet if they arent cut. I've heard good things about the dog sled dressing too.

I'm going to give blue-kote a try first cause i have it on the way. I ordered it tuesday it should show up today I hope.

reading up on the EMT gel that stuff should work really well but he licks it soon as I put it on him. maybe it stings?

the sore looks clean. don't look swollen either. just looks like a sore on the inside edges of the pad in-between toe area. sorry i hope i explained that right.

like i said he runs on if fine. but what will 5hrs of bunny after bunny do to that paw? we got lots of rabbits over here right now and I know i can run him hard for that long with little down time I know for a fact!

I'd get the stuff Bobby is talking about. Chip eisenhut sells small tubes of it for around $25. I got a tube of it at the world and it works great. It comes from Alaska on the sled

I ordered the blue kote from chip. I was looking on his web-site and I've heard of the blue-kote and when mybeagles hunted with me we spoke about bluekote so thats why i bought it. I'll have to peek at his website again here in a minute. I must of overlooked the sled dog stuff.

i still daily apply the dressing stuff. its a yellow thick looking cream.

I didn't see it in that page you had pulled up. I would give him a call. I have some of that blue-kote and it didn't help my dogs at all. That other stuff is around 25 for a small amount but works great

Joey just call Chip and ask him about the sled dog stuff for feet. He knows what it is. The thing I like about the sled dog salve is it softens up the skin on the dogs feet and they get tougher. A beagles feet tend to dry out real bad and the skin will crack and peel like callouses on a persons feet. The salve keeps the skin soft and they get a lot tougher and don't crack and peel. We have been using it for several years and it is by far the best product I have ever seen.

I used bluekote on my dogs ears and he shook his head vigorously each time. I got some in a cut on my hand and found out why; burns like a mother!
