Loss of Rear Limbs

Has anyone seen or had a beagle that all of a sudden lost the use of it's back legs--looks like it's back end is paralyzed?

i have a female that lost her legs both of them finally she got to standing after about 3 wks that was 2yrs ago still not perfect but run her with pups

Had a dog that seemed drunk on her hind legs. Also gained weight and had a rough coat. Turned out to be thyroid.

We had a 20" walker hound go down in the rear end about 15 years ago. My vet told me back then that this is sometimes caused by severe case of whip worms. If I recall correctly it took a lot of treatment to get rid of the whips. She eventually got back on her feet and ran again. There are a lot of things that can cause this. One of the most common is a spinal injury that causes a pinched nerve. Bobby

Friend of mines dog came down with the same thing a week ago, and she had to be put down.
The vet said she was paralyzed and couldn't feel anything in her back end.
Dog hadn't been run all summer and was kept in a pen above ground.

I hope your dog is doing better, but I had a little bluetick beagle to do that once and took her to the vet and they did xrays and found pebbles of tiny rock in her belly. When I would feed her and a few pieces of dog food hit the ground she at it and got rocks to and the vet give her something up her butt to make her poop it out and the next day she was a brand new dog like nothing never happened.

HAD A SMALL STOCKY SPO MALE YEARS AGO THAT HAD SAMETHING,IT WAS A HIP DISPLACEMENT AND I PUT HIM DOWN.

I had the exact same thing happen to one of my best female she was only two years old. Took her to the vet and they tested her for lymes but came back negative. I keep her in the house and gave her steroids for seven weeks and finally had to have her put down. Hope your outcome is better.

Sounds like Coonhound paralysis. I used to run coondogs. I've never seen it, but it is treatable if this is it.

I'm new here so allow me reintroduce myself.......
My name is Doc Olly but you can call me Doc Olly!
Just kiddin, but I am a licensed small animal vet in Georgia. I hunt rabbits Turkey and Coon but just love hounds.

Anyway, couple questions for ya:
How old? Male or female? Fixed?
Did anything rough happen like a fall or bumped into another dog real hard? Also is the dog overweight?

The first thing that comes to mind is IVDD also called intervertebral disk disease. It kinda a human that has a slipped or bulging disk! It's painful and it's bad news!

Second thing that comes to mind is tick paralysis. Not likely because its so cold this time of year. But basically a tick bites and his saliva cause the dog to be paralyzed. Sometimes back limbs, sometimes all 4 limbs.

Other issues could be arthritis or dysplasia.
