i seen alot of people use a tame rabbit but i dont understand how they do it can someone explain it to me

Some build a training pen with San Juan rabbits and plenty of brush piles. They put the pups in from an early age. Soon as they have their shots and are mobile. Let the pups search around and chase the rabbits until they get proficient enough to catch and kill them all. Dan M

i think i know what to do now let it sight chase a few times a tame rabbit then let the rabbit out before the pup then place the pup at the beginning of the track and let it track it for about a week then im gonna take it out in the woods and see if it jumps a wild one then when it can solo its own rabbit pair it up a few times with an older dog

Just be careful not to allow too many sight chases. They will be running around with their nose in the air looking for the rabbit instead of on the ground trying to find it.

So how many sight chases would be best

I was going to start training it at about 4 months and let the dog sight chase it for about 20-30 mins i was only going to let it sight chase 2 times a week once at the beginning and once at the end of the week.Then let the tame rabbit out before the pup for about 15 mins then put it under a box then when the pup gets to the rabbit give it a treat and alot of praise

That sounds pretty good. If you see him start looking around all of the time instead of hunting, you definitely need to stop the sight chasing. But 2 times a week should be ok. It just depends on the dog. You just have to read what the dog is doing. But that sounds like a good start.

the first time i introduced it to the tame rabbit would it be smart to let the rabbit out first then let the pup out and see if it uses his nose then when the pup gets to the box, flip it up and let it sight chase it.
So that would let it know to use its nose and what its using its nose for 2

A wise beagler told me a couple weeks ago to put the rabbit in a cage and let the pup "investigate" for a while. Some pups may first be afraid of the rabbit. Let the pup get to the point that it wants the rabbit and it is trying to get it to. Then go ahead with your plan. Sounds like you have it figured out. It's all trial and error. Just experiment and see what works best for you and your particular pup. But it seems like you have a good plan.

so let the rabbit out first and put it under a bucket then leet the pup out and let it investigate then when it gets to or close to the bucket let the tame rabbit run

yeah man, get the pups curiosity up there. then get it's natural drive to chase the rabbit up and you've got a good combo...
