have a buddy who has dogs that tree squirrels , what do you guys think how do you break them of this , besides shock collars could you get a squirrel tail and tie around his collar like breaking scents, i dont know if it would work or not what do you think?

How old are the dogs? I let my pups run whatever they want until 5-6 mo. old, just to get them using their noses. At that time however, it calls for a dose of Vit. E if they run something other than a rabbit...
