Force Break to Retreive.

Post by youngpup »

Has anyone tried or has been successful with training there beagle to Force Retrieving? I have a dog I thought about working with on this technique. I enjoy training dogs and I want to make my beagles the best they can be!

I have never done it with a beagle but did with an English setter. I think if you take your time it could be done successfully. You'll need a training table, a sheet of plywood ripped in half and laid end to end will give you 16 feet of working space. Run a cable, suspended between two posts, with a trolley above the table with a drop chin to attach to the dogs collar. Start with a 8-10 inch length of 1" dowel. Look on the net for procedures/videos. I like the ear pinch best over the toe pinch; it's just easier. Good luck and keep us posted.
