I have just breed may best gyp with my best jump dog and she took. The question is (since I am new to breeding) is what is the best feed to feed my gyp while she is pregnant and after she has the pups. Any information about raising my first litter will be appreciateded. Thanks, VA-beaglesVa-Beagles

I always switch mine over to Purina Puppy Chow for about the last month and give it to her in a self feeder.

I personally don't change anything. I wouldn't let them eat too much because it may cause the pups to grow too large and the bitch could have a hard time whelping. JMO

I am like green river, I don't change anything and I don't increase the food intake until after she has the pups. I feed Black Gold black bag and it has everything that puppy Chow has in it. Increasing the food intake can cause large pups and like green river said cause problems whelping. JMO also.

We also switch over to Purina Puppy Chow. It seems to give the female more milk and keep the pups healthier.

Here is a pregnancy calendar. Put in the day you breed her and it will let you know what to do and when to do it. Definitely feed a puppy food with high protien. http://www.debbiejensen.com/date.html

Hope this helps...

I switch over to Purina Puppy Chow, but I also add a powdered calves milk. Just sprinkle the powder over the Puppy Chow. it gives the female the extra calcium she needs and produces more milk for the mother. Also when weaning the pups sprinkle the powder on their food. This makes the pups big and strong....
