How many dogs do you have on the 55 gallon barrel?

Ive heard some people say that dog waste doesnt break down like human waste does. How long has yours been in and have you had any problems with it?

I don't have a set up like this, but i do have experience with septic, and cistern tanks. The big problem that people have is they kill the bugs. By this they are constantly pouring bleach, etc to kill the smells. This also kills all the bacteria that your septic needs to break down solids. A 55 gallon drum with about 25 foot of leach will work.

My friends from across the pond collect the droppings, hair and bedding shavings and place them in a incinerator to be burnt. This breaks the material down to be thrown on the garden and at the same time kills any parasite eggs or bacteria/disease causing material that it may be holding and not allow it to be spread...

I have a septic system on my kennels and use bleach and pine-sol regularly. The main thing is to put a packet of self rising yeast into the tank each month to replenish the bacteria or some rid-x works too.I have 17 dogs on the tank and it works well. The only thing that doesn't break down is the hair.If you do put a septic tank in i recommend one with a removable filter so you can clean it and also keep hair and stuff from going into your field lines.
