I've used expanded metal flooring for above ground kennels for the past 27 years or so. It works great and lasts along time although it will eventually rust out. The one to get is 9 gauge (the heaviest available) with flattened mesh (so the dogs won't cut their paws on it) and with the largest openings (which I think are about 1.25" X 1"). It used to cost around $30. for a 4'X8' sheet. I use one sheet per run.

You can get expanded metal from most any steel distributor listed in the Yellow Pages. Mine came from Kalamazoo Mill Supply (269) 349-9641.
You're welcome to stop by and see my set up anytime. I live about an hour south of Grand Rapids. My telephone number is (269) 375-1639.
