I am thinking hard on breeding my male that is out of Kalagha. He is a fine hound that is still young but really no faults in the field as far as I am concerned. He is having seziures from time to time and although they are not bad or life threatening, I am cautious of breeding him because of this. His dam was out of a FC Winterside DJ x FC Cabin Fever My Girl Kate cross, which is a daughter of Kalagha. Has anyone had any experiences with offspring having seziure problems and if so how bad. If this was passed down then I will not breed him but if not then I will try it. If nobody has had this problem then I will take him to the vet to see if it is something like a pinched nerve or something but it dont affect his running ability at all so I doubt it is. These seziures only last a couple of minutes and are not bad at all so I dont think it is a life threatening thing.

I have a friend who has a FC male directly off of Kalagha that has has many seizures caused by low blood sugar. I've also seen lots of bad bites and trash running in this line of dogs. I'm not impressed with this bloodline.

Must have been the bottom end that added the trash running then. My dog will not run a deer and seizures are not hereditary according to my vet. I might also add that Kalagha's breeding record speaks for itself.

The ellers linesman dogs were "rumored" to be a little trashy.
Epileptic seizures are heriditary. Seizures caused by low blood sugar may not be.
As for Kalagha's "breeding record speaking for itself" thats a matter of opinion. 20 FC's out of several hundred breedings that produced several hundred more pups isn't earth shattering, it's avarage. There are several other lesser known and bred FC's with better producing records.
I guess its a matter of what one likes in a hound. I've seen a couple of really nice Kalagha offspring but I've seen a whole lot more that I wouldn't feed.

Ghostman, refer to my post on the breaking off deer. All lines are trashy until broke. Just take my bet on there and I'll show you and the whole world. Yes, you are right that 20 FC's is just that 20. How many other dogs have bred hundreds of litters and not had that many. I ain't basing my breeding on him, its just a part of it. I am also breeding a grandson of Rob's Diamond II. I believe he just made the HOF and he only has 19 bred out of him but look at all the grandson's. You can't just look at offspring and the dam has just as much to do with it. I can cross the best of the best with a worthless oil licker and they may not produce anything worth keeping around. All of that goes back to Gay and Pearson Creek breeding if I remember correctly. Eller's was out of Gay and Luci Van Boog (who produced Little man, one of the best SPO dogs of our time). Are you saying that the Gay and Luci dogs were bad producers. He is linebred Kalagha so these dogs show up on top and bottom. No worthless outcrosses. I had a guy tell me that the bottom end of my Diamond dog was worthless. It is all Thorn Gap. I showed him 5-7 gen. and he shut up. Dogs like Banker's Boogie is in there. I can also say this about my dog, he has turned deer down and I have yet to shock him once for it. I had some other ones run deer and he wouldn't run it. I know he hasn't been broke because I know who raised and started him and he didn't and he is not even two yet. I bought him at 6 months and he was soloing rabbits circle after circle. The siezuires has slowed him down a bit I think or age could have done it.
Just one question before I go, what lines to you breed or have.

Well, they might be "rumored" but my linebred Kalagha male has now officially turned down two fresh deer and has yet to be shocked one time in his life for it.

I have seen 3 males from FC Kalagha run in Maryland and North Carolina, they were just med speed but good line and good search and had good mouths, if they were a little faster i would have bought all 3...

There is AKC FC Fred who is a son of FC Kalagha that is 9 years old in Maryland that I found, He did really well on the circuit and especially under the gun with no problems whatsoever with his health. He has only been bred around 4 times by the owner as he has never been at public stud and very few know about him. The owner has a few really good running dogs down from him and one or two are going to run in trials these next few months.I am going to breed my FC Birch Lake Drummer grandaughter to him when she comes into season. If any are interested especially with a well bred gyp, leave a post with your number and I will pass it on.

Alabamaswamper,Are you talking about Les Blondino(Bucks Branch Beagles)?I know he has Kalagha beagles. He lives in Madison Heights Virginia.Very nice guy.I went hunting with him and he let me start a couple pups of mine in his starting pen.I also ran a couple beagles for him to help get my pups going. He has good beagles but not suited for what I need up here in Maine on hare.Sincerly, haredog
