I've been in on the search for a good pair of snowshoes. Something that is heavy-duty for a big guy and is easy to operate in fresh deep snow and is easy to use in packed snow conditions.
I owned a pair of Atlas aluminum framed ones these worked great on exsisting trails and wet snow but in deep snow (untouched) i would just sink. sometimes making it harder to go with shoes expecially over tag alders. I'm looking into the Iversons but hard to find now days. Anyone have any suggestions? The guys from out east and others from the northern states should have a good idea what I'm talkin about!

I have a set of Tubbs that I really like. If you wear the same boots with e'm, their easy on and off. I think the only option is to have two sets of shoes. A smaller pair and a bigger pair for the deep days. It seems to be a no win situation though. You don't sink as much with the bigger pair but it’s harder to maneuver in the thick stuff.

I have worn out many pairs of wooden frame shoes then went to the Tubbs metal frames they are a little heavier and noiseier on the snow
but have a lifetime warranty,
I would stay away from the Tubbs tho that was the first pair i bought
have had to send them back twice for rivet problems
when you send them back they have to go now to the state of Wash.
and it will take 3 months to get them back
Cabelas has some good shoes at reasonable prices with the metal frames
a man needs to have Three or 4 pairs to have the right one for different snow conditions
I own 2 pairs 1 10 in by 36 and 1 13 in by 36 in both heavier than i like but can get around with them being 6ft2 and 238lbs i need the length

john, the metal framed ones are they the ones that are millitary issued? I believe they are titanium with fine cable weaving. I've heard alot of guys around here seem to like them if those are the ones. they are white in color.

I got a pair of Tubbs that I like a lot.

But I'll tell you what, GG Meadus from Newfoundland had a pair of homemade shoes at Upper Hudson this past year that I would be curious about. For a big guy he was getting around pretty good in those things and they were pretty easy to get on and off.

Dave, If you want Iverson's you have to buy them through LL Bean I was told that from a gal at Iverson's factory a year or two ago now- The biggest size shoe you can find in the aluminum models are typically 10x36 I wieghed over 300lbs. when I bought mine and they worked wonderful for me then, this year I will be under two hundred mhen I strap them on so I should float over the snow!! I was a die hard Iverson man until I put a pair of these new shoes on and tried them. There is a canadian company that makes these new style of shoes and they advertise a 12x42 that is a real good looking shoe if its the sizing that worries you matbe give these a try. Kurt Robinson
