The Kentucky Derby

Post by Jamie Rice »

Alrighty folks, we gamblers here in Kentucky get excited this time of the year. The thing that we're perhaps known for more than anything else is upon us. Yep that's right the world's greatest horse race, The Derby. I know a few of you gamble and bet, therefore lets get our opinions out here. Who do you guys and gals think is going to win?

My pick to win it is Peace Rules. I picked him to win the Bluegrass Stakes, which he did. Unfortunatly, yours truly didn't spend any money on that one. However this is the derby, I gotta spend some dough.

Therefore here's how it breaks down in my opinion

Win - Peace Rules
Place - Ten Most Wanted
Show - Scrimshaw

Box - Peace Rules/Ten Most Wanted
Trifecta - Peace Rules/Ten Most Wanted/Scrimshaw

My Longshot Pick - Ten Cents To Shine.

Hey Jamie, I like your picks! And coming from a Kentuckian, I just may have to put a couple of bucks on 'em. I don't know about you, but I always like to put Pat Day in my top 3. For my long shot, my greens going on "Outta Here". Good Jockey, and just like the name. Good Luck!!

Peace Rules

Fuzz, thanks for the tip on Peace Rules. I know nothing about horse races and my friend wanted to bet a steak dinner on the race. He wanted the Grimshaw horse, and I went with Peace Rules, and well, I have a steak dinner comming!
Thanks, mybeagles

Aaron,

One out of three placing ain't bad I suppose. Funny Cide surprised the hell out of me. You're a funny guy. Hey but at least I can pick race car drivers, 'eh? Ha ha. Take care buddy.

Dave,
Your friend can buy me a steak dinner as well if he wants to be generous... ha ha.

Fuzz..........You wont believe this but here goes anyway! Yesterday we was at the Indiana State trial, a man named Doyle that was at the trial and lives down that way was in a cast handling with my wife. On the way home she was telling me how Doyle said he had some tickets for the derby and that he thought he knew who was going to win. I asked her who he said and she said " Funny something".......then when we got home and she heard Funny Cide won...she said thats the horse! Guess this guy knows his horses........or is very lucky. Do you know Doyle?

Talk at you later, Randy

Randy,

Can't say that I know anyone named Doyle? How did you all fair at the Indiana State? I went to Daniel Boone's trial instead. Despite what I thought would be good running conditions(misty rain), running wasn't that great. Was my big male's first rodeo. Hope to have him at a few more before the year is out. I was suppose to have come up to Danville a few weeks ago. Something come up and I couldn't come. I've gotta deliver a puppy to a guy up there next week. Therefore hopefully this time something won't come up. Look forward to sharing some laughs with you guys and gals up there. Laurel County is having back to back trials the weekend of the 17th, perhaps some of your Hoosiers can come down and join us.

Take care...

Gotta be talkin' 'bout Doyle Butts. Super fella! If there are dogs being run, he's there to help and have fun. Great cook, too!

Fuzz.....I am planning on coming down there the 17th if I get the guts. I have heard between the hills and snakes a fella may not make it home

Hey Fuzz..what is the trash running like at them Laurel County hunts? I have a dog I am trying to protect from high bird chase areas.......you think I would have a problem down there?

See you soon, Randy

Randy,

Look forward to seeing you and your wife when you come down. As for snakes, everybody always talks about them around here. Honestly I've not come upon a lot. Guess I'm lucky or just haven't paid a lot of attention to them. More lucky probably. I've only ran upon a snake once. And wasn't even poisonous. As for high bird chases.. Not sure if you're meaning turkey or quail. There's a few fowl around the areas Laurel County uses for grounds, but not enough to warrant a concern. As for the Butts guy, I don't know him.

Take Care
