A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
Dose anyone have an ideal on killing ticks in a training pen. Or a way to get them off cottontails safely. Don't want to affect their reproduction or harm the adult or young rabbits.
go to mosquitobarrier.com and read about their product. i make my own using garlic, water and cooking oil and apply it to my dogs. no fleas ticks flies or mosquitos
I am not sure if it works.Ihave heard to put piles of lime in the pens for the rabbit to dust in. Like I say not sure how many ticks it keeps off. I do know for a fact though my rabbits reproduce well.
I use sevin dust in my doghouses to keep them off my hounds. Sevin comes in a liquid spray as well, but I don't know how broad an area it may be used on, or if it may be toxic to rabbits. It works great on ticks, though and may be worth more follow-up.
A beagler here in michigan said they use sevin dust in there pens. They put where the rabbits have there dusting spots and it deters fleaas and ticks, she also told me that there reproduction rate has increased. I have also heard of making dustiong pans under 1/2 barrels using cat litter and sevin dust.
Hope this helps
