Beagle holding a grudge

Post by WrongsideRandy »

Hi ,,I have a male beagle (ROSCO),,,well 2 summers ago he was out on his tieout in the front yard minding his own business...well the (REGULAR)mailman wasnt delievering mail that day it was a sub and I didnt realize it,, I was painting and didnt pay close enough attention and to make a long story short the sub has a fear of dogs and even though Rosco couldnt reach the mailman he chose to pepper spray him on the chain,,,well the REGULAR mailman would bring Rosco treats ,,the sub had something else for Rosco,,,,but my problem is I cant even leave Rosco out with the nice mailman anymore cuz I think he'd bite him do you think Rosco will get over this pissed off attitude towards him ?The mailman made me come and get the mail the other day cuz Rosco was barking at him ?I dont think Rosco will ever forget about that day,,,,and just to kick it it up a notch,,,Randy went after the mailman and asked him if he'd like some pepper spray in his eyes???? well the feds showed up the next day,,,,,you dont threaten a federal employee...LOL,,,Shannon

Well in my opinion beagles don't forget. I would just look for another place to tie out my beagle just to make everything safe. I would think that pepper spray in a dogs face would constitute animal cruelty especially when tied up. But like you said federal employees can do what they want when they want and get away with it.

Your dog will not forget. He is reminded every day about the incident and ties the time and uniform to the spray. I would move the tie out and write a letter to the post office.

Yup, you can't tease the mailman...a fed law.

I don't think he will forget either.. He probably just associates the mailman suit means something bad...now.. No advice.. . poor Rosco! I can see being scared of a big dog, like lets say, a rott, pit, lab.. but a beagle?

We had a poodle for over 15 years, we live in the woods at the end of the road. The only person who would come here in the middle of the day while we were at work was the UPS man. Now he didn't bother her but she would bark at him from inside the house. When we had her in the car out for a ride or just going to town if she spied a UPS truck she would go beserk! No your dog won't forget. Good luck and sorry to hear about another one going POSTAL. LOL Hare

Randy, I am truely sorry for what this person did to your dog and if it was one of mine I would be pretty mad to especially since he was on a tie out. I think this guy made a wrong decision. I just hope that you all dont take this guy and class all federal employees with him. I myself am one and I dont think I can do everything and get away with it. I feel that i should do the oppisite and show more restrant and more professionalism. I have been here a little while now and I dont get into the arguing much and not trying to start here. All I ask is dont let this one guys dumb mistake make a name for all federal employees. Having been a member for the S.O.R.T. for a while, I will tell you the best way to help with pepper spray just incase something like this happens again. Use Johnsons Baby Shampoo, put a little on the palm of your hand and rub it in eyes. Then wash it out with water. I have been sprayed around 30 times with pepper spray direct eye contact and this help more than the stuff you see in the catalogs. Thank you for your time and once again I am sorry randy for what happened to your dog.

J. Stumbo thank you for the kind words and advice on how to ease the pain with spray, I didnt know that! As a matter of fact thank you all for the kind words. I would never lump all federal employees together...my father in law was a postal employee for 40+ years and I have many friends & clients that are federal employees and they are good people. This guy was just a bad apple. He had been suspended for doing this before, he sprayed a dog in a fenced in area and was caught.

You all take care,
Randy
