What can I use to clean my pups ears? He is 4 months old. He has this brown waxy looking nasty stuff.
Thank you, Adam Spencer

You risk damaging the ears if you put the Q-tip in too far, and you can also unintentionally push grime deeper into the ear and worsen problems. Cleaning with a Q-tip also doesn't prevent most ear problems with dogs, which are related in large part to moisture. The partially closed conditions of the floppy ears that beagles have promote microbial growth within the ear. You can buy cleansers like Epiotic that have a drying agent. You put a few squirts/drops in (depending if you're really cleaning out dirty ears or if you're just doing preventative maintenance), massage it around, and clean-up what you can. A $6 bottle lasts a long time.

Beleive me or not but my vet told me to use good old rubbing alcohol. Take a cotton ball and soak it in. Push it in as far as you can. Take your finger and swirl it around and pull out. I have started using it and it works good. I never would have believed that rubbing alcohol would be used for this but she asssured me.

Go to drug store and buy a small bottle of mineral oil and 2 cubes of camphor. Put this in glass jar and set jar in a pan of water so water level is approx. the same level as mixture. Heat on stove till the cubes of camphor melts into mineral oil. Mix well and let cool. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO HEAT IN MICROWAVE!!! Your microwave will smell like vicks for the rest of your life and your wife will KICK YOUR A**! After completely cooled squirt 1-2 cc's into each ear and rub into dogs ear good.
Seal up the remainder in a container and it will keep forever!

Oti-Clens
You may also want to use a cleaner like Oti-Clens on a regular basis after so it does not build up again.
