Using Tri Tronics Collar

Post by mikes »

Before I make a mistake I want to be sure what is the bestway to teach my dog to come using a E collar
#1 when I put the collar on her in my yard she gets real nervous now 6 month ago I tried to use it on her and it was like pouring scalding water on her so for the last few days I have beeen lettihg her play in the backyard with just the collar on.
Should I take her to a different spot other than my backyard for training? I am just afraid that I will ruin her on coming back to me by using the collar
Please let me know your thoughts Thank You

I like to use the tone button for the first few times on a young dog. If she dosen't respond just tap her a little on #1 until she returns. I can't remember hurting a dog with an e-collar, but you must remember one very important thing, DON'T LOSE YOUR TEMPER. I'm sure this would ruin a young dog. If you go easy and be consistant you should do OK.

sir. you have to use a check cord on your dog along with your ecollar and it only takes about five minutes to teach them to come to you.

Thats right. She has to have mastered the command before she can be zapped into obeying it. I wouldn't own a collar without the tone..its all I ever have to use. I maybe shocked mine two times ever.

I worked with my dog for a long time with a long cord to get her to know what "here" meant. Then, I worked her with a collar AND a long cord-& when I called her, I used the tone button at the same time. So she knows that the tone button is also a "here" button. I only use the shock if she ignores me. Now, she knows that she better come to me on the tone, cause what follows is not good! Sometimes when she's stubborn, I have to use the "1" setting. Now, I can't feel it on 1, but she can! "2" will light her up, but I don't have to use 2 anymore. I wouldn't own a collar without a tone button. What a wonderful tool!
