$100.00 to each placing hound.

APRIL 16 - 13" Females - Jason Wiseman (NEBGF) & Glenn Jones (Mid Atlantic)

APRIL 16 - 15" Females - Brandon Johnson (Deep South) & Bobby Tines (Lone Star)

APRIL 17 - 13" Males - Robert Webb (Deep South) & Ed Overholt (UBGF)

APRIL 17 - 15" Males - Alan Slocum (NEBGF) & Earl Rice (Midwest Assocation)

To the best of my knowledge the requirements are as follows

Any hound placing 1st through 4th at a SPO licensed trial between last years National and this years National

Any hound placing 1st through 4th at a SPO National qualifying trial between last years National and this years National

This last qualification/requirement I'm not sure one.

1. Any AKC Field Champion ????

2. Any SPO field champion or any AKC champion with at least one win in an AKC SPO trial.

First let me say that I have never been to a AKC hunt but I plan to go to one this Spring just to check it out.
I have one guestion.....It may be a dumb one or I just simply dont understand but im going to ask anyway.
From that list of judges that were posted that will be judging I see the different Federations or "Formats" behind each persons name. Seeing this tells me that those are the types of dogs they keep, most likely prefer and most likely favor in style as a judge. Im guessing that since this is the Nationals all the different Federations of SPO will be represented there and they will all be ran together. Im just curious how this all works. There is a very big difference in types or styles of dogs from Federation to Federation I would think.
For example, lets say I have a 13" Male that I run in MidWest. Looking on that list I see that one person has (Deep South) next to his name and the other has (UBGF). Does my Midwest dog stand a chance in this hunt? Unless I completely dont understand how this works I would say no. Do most people that run AKC just not bring that dog and try to find another class that they have a dog that fits the type of judge?
Please dont think im picking on AKC, any of the judges or Federations because im not......just tring to comprehend this better.

To answer your question, there was a 13" bitch that went all the way to the final pack last year or year before that and she was a midwest hound owned by Boyd Campbell.

what part will the money come into the judging? I know a hundred dollars is not a lot but it sure would help pay some of the expenses.

Hate to tell you but Bobby Tynes don't know a darn soul when you go down under him judging. A top houndsman who has been judging 'bout 20+ years. Has judged both Large Pack and SPO.
Everyone will get an equal shot under him.

I wasnt tring to say that a MidWest type of hound couldnt win. What I was tring to figure out is why they dont have a Nationals for each Federation.
For example it seems that everyone who owned MidWest type dogs would only bring their 15" Males to this hunt because they figure they would stand a better chance since there was a MidWest judge for that class. Im not saying any of the judges are bad but it just seems to me that if you have a judge that prefers a UGBF style of hound and you have a MidWest style of hound for the class he is judging it would be in your best interest to leave that hound at home. It just seems like common sence that a Midwest judge wouldnt like a UGBF type of hound and visa-versa.
Im not stirring sh*t, just tring to understand.

From what I've been told these federations like a slower, much more conservative hound than the Mid-West.

I've not seen a ton of hounds from the other associations, but the ones I've seen as well as the ones I've seen bred like many of those that run in those other associations are more conservative and a tad slower than Midwest. That doesn't mean every single dog in an associaton/federation run the same. I'll not pigeonhole a whole sect, but from what I have seen the Midwest runs a more aggressive, harder hitting hound than any other sect. And to those that wish to criticize, aggressive and harder hitting doesn't always mean rougher.

As for judging, you aren't given the option to like one or the other. Your job is judge what is brought, whether it be fast, medium, or slow. And to do so by the SPO rule book. You can only judge what shows up.

I make no other promises for the Midwest representative other than you'll get 110 percent and an honest days job.

I look forward to meeting a few of the guys from the other assocations that frequent these boards.
