Some opinions with this please

Post by rabbitrunner3 »

Ok so i have a nine month old pup that is just gettin started. He has been a couple runs on cottontail. But yesterday evenin i took him out and he went off on a deer. Is it too early to shock him off being hes just started and it may knock him out of hunt of evenrunning at all? Any opinoins would greatly appreciated. Thanks

My experience has been to correct the problem asap and get them back in a positive hunting situation asap. When you go to break him or her make them remember it!
Then, again, test them and make sure they understand and back to hunting and good situations. JMO. Hope this helps.

If shocking/stopping him from running off game would ruin him, he wasn't worth saving. With the numbr of deer in all parts of the country, a dog that runs deer is worthless, IMO.

I was told if they are old enough to run off game they are old enough to be shocked!

i think the younger they are the faster they learn i was running 2 5 month old pups and they got on one i bumped them on 3 and had to hit them a few more times when they were 6 months i never had too fri them but i never had them take one out and i consitered them broke after that i would take them straight to deer and they never aked like they were even thare my buddys dog took one full cry and mine just kept looking around like i dont smell a rabbit i felt perty good i think if you show them when they are young and bump them you wont have to fri them when they get older jmo
