Hey guys!
Long time no see. I have become a Face Book addict but I still think of you all often. A friend sent this to me today. I did not know George Bender but maybe some of you did?

PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Wednesday, February 3, 2010
For George Bender, the fox-hunting cry "tally ho" took on a new meaning
when he moved to Butler County.
It was a term that beaglers, like himself, use during field trials when
their dogs are judged for their response in chasing rabbits.
George H. Bender, formerly of Evans City, a member of the Tri-State
Beaglers Hall of Fame, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, in the Good Samaritan
Hospice Unit at Concordia in Cabot. He was 96.
Mr. Bender retired in 1978 from Mine Safety Appliance Co. in Callery.
The results of the rabbit chase provide beaglers who breed, raise and sell
the prize dogs with a good source of income.
"Shortly after Dad moved to Evans City, he joined a group of men who ran
their beagles and used them to hunt," said his son, Donald Bender of Butler.
"Dad soon followed and began hunting and raising beagles, which are
considered among the best hunting dogs. And soon after, he was entering his
beagles in the field trials.
"Dad also had the temperament for taking his beagles on long walks, which
required being away from the house for hours at a time."
Mr. Bender was a founder and charter member of the Breakneck Beagle Club,
and had served as secretary of the Pennsylvania Federation of Beagle Clubs
and representative to the Butler County Sportsmen's Council.
"My mother supported Dad's interest in beagles and often accompanied him to
beagle trials throughout the state," his son said.
Born and raised in the North Side, Mr. Bender was one of four children of
butcher shop owner George Bender and Mary Wohl Bender.
During World War II, Mr. Bender worked in a factory that produced portable
breathing canisters for the Navy.
In addition to his son Donald, Mr. Bender is survived by two daughters,
Barbara Madl of Ligonier and Mary Walters of Portsmouth, N.H.; two sons,
George Bender of Sarver and John E. Bender of Ross; 12 grandchildren and 16
great-grandchildren; and a brother, Thomas Bender of Green Tree.
Mr. Bender was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Wedge Bender, in
2003; a brother, John E. Bender; and a sister, Anne Cleary.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the
McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St.
Kilian Roman Catholic Church, Mars, with the Rev. Charles Bober, pastor,
officiating.
Burial will be in the Mars Cemetery in Adams.
