My dogs are house trained and use the backyard as their toilet.
The 20 some inches of snow we got is melting leaving me with a huge mess . I was unable to recently do pooper scooper duty since you can't effectively scoop what you can't see.
What's left over has blended into the mud.
What are the best ways to get rid of the mess and odor?

You can use lime and spread it out to take care of the smell and it will also help the ph in your yard .

Sunsetredbeagles, thank you for your reply.
Hoe much lime do I use?
Is it safe on the beagles feet?

Im going to have same problem. What type of lime do you use? I have seen a powdery looking lime and a lime that looks like like bbs. Does it matter? Thanks

I use powdered lime or hydrolized in the kennels. A 50 lb. sack does 400 square feet by just broadcasting it out of a cup. If you get it too heavy it will harden up like cement when it gets wet.
In my yard I use dolometic pelletized lime at a rate of 1500 lbs. to the acre. Our soil is acidic and it will green up the fescue quick this time of the year. It is a cheap fertilizer and promotes root growth. I think it is under $3.00 a 40 lb. bag here in town.
