My little helpers

Post by hookset »

If you have kids, you know what I mean. Raising and training the dogs is only half the reason for having beagles. Spending time with my little "helpers" is the other half.

Mine think that dog food is too "spicey". :D

Kali is 2 and is my puppy trainer. She makes sure they are used to being carried by their necks, having their tails pulled, and generally being over-crowded.

Maci is 5 and is my hound's voice trainer. She makes sure they know they have to bark loudly if they are to be heard over her continuous rambling. She also breaks them to lead by tying them up to anything and forgetting to tell me that she did.

Being around kids make for a really good handling dog. Being around dogs does something for kids that will last a lifetime.

I agree on both. I've tried to keep them around pretty much any animal they are interested in. They love the puppies and the goats, I've drawn the line at llamas.

Also, having other animals around, like the goats, seem to help with the dogs running off game. Maybe, maybe not, but I've had better luck with that since the dogs are around so many other animals.

The pups are Patch/Branko bred. Looking forward to seeing how they do.

The dog in the bed is a 4 month old pup. She got in when my other girl went out to get on the school bus. Didn't know she was in the house until my wife found her.

This was my project with Maci this spring. Took four days to do with my helper, would have taken two by myself. :)

I know what you mean. They want to help feed, even if they've already been fed. But when you have to clean kennels, their leg hurts or it's too cold (or hot).

Thanks Chris and Laura

I thought I'd let you know, I'm coming to kidnap Jew-Dee. Maci let three of the big dogs out when I was running Ditto and Smoke this morning. Didn't phaze her a bit, led them around like they were the pups! I truly don't know what I've got ahold of there.
