What you might see as a fault in one hound, say foot, I might not see it as one. Thats why I said shooter. Shooter might not be a perfect dog to every one, but he is the total package in my eyes. Like I said, I could over see something that you wouldn't own because you see it as a fault. I've decided to live with that he doesn't throw footy dogs, I can see he has a outstanding big nose, has tight line and tight check work w/ exploding out of the check and has the consistency to run each day the same way.

If I seen this Tyke dog run I'd probably think the same thing if he is a little like Shooter.

Choosing to overlook a fault because of the other qualities he throws doesn't make it any less of a fault. It just means that you have chosen to live with the fault. And if you prefer a dog with more foot then you can always cross to something with more foot to get what you like............but in the end if you chose to overlook it then it was still a fault even in your own eyes.

We all like, dislike, overlook or pick apart different things based on what we can or can't live with so no 2 people will ever see a dog in exactly the same light.

I think speed is a great example of this. Some people like a little slower dog and there is nothing wrong with that because that's what suites them but IMO if the dog is "perfect" then it should be able to run a rabbit while it's flying and make no mistakes while doing it.......regardless of what style hound "I" like to run.

But these guys are right............every dog has a fault.................whether or not some people choose to see it is another story. I'd even be willing to bet Ron could come up with a fault(albeit a small one  ) even for Tyke. It doesn't make Tyke, Shooter or any of the other great hounds any less of a rabbit dog, it just means people are being realistic about what they are.

I have yet to hear any of the true houndsmen I've ever talked to say they owned a perfect dog. They've had some great ones but they can always tell you something they didn't completely care for in that dog.

Our hounds are going to get off track and mess up but i like those that have a quick recovery and act like they never messed up Some are kennel are thier hounds have them fooled

I'm not saying Shooter isn't a great hound...but that fact you said didnt he have any faults isn't true. There hasn't not nor will there ever be a dog without faults.
The only fault Shooter has is that he is not a Black and Tan! ... :D

All bout the Branko wrote:What dog or dogs would you say have it all. Brains, foot speed, nose, etc. Not just a dog that is good, but a dog that shines in the field almost 100% of the time.

There aint many of them that have it all and even less that will impress everyone just depends on the style you like most guys will say the blood they run does it all but you have to find what works best for you starting out I would say your on the right path do your research watch plenty of them run before you buy anything just like a car doesn't cost a penny to test drive.

Keep an open mind because your opinion is the only one that matters your the one who has to feed it not anyone else. Im sure all the hounds listed above are outstanding hounds and I'm not taking a thing away from any of them but if they dont fit what you like then they wont work for you not every great hound looks great everyday and reproduces great every pup.

Here's some that I have seen in recent years that impressed me as pretty complete packages.
But not one of them I would say is perfect.

Martin's Jump-N-Run Cindy
Durham's Lily
Hines Quick Kaddie
Branko's Flashback
Green Bay Butkus
Jr's Topgun Tyke
Big Creek Lick
Townlines Honey Bea

I would say that Lily & Tyke in their prime were the best I have seen.
