Tossing around the idea of makeing a trip over next season with my dogs to try Michigan bobcat. I run here allot but was looking for a out of state hunt. Was looking at the area North of Connorville. Anyone know how the cat population is in that area? (Not looking to kill, just run)

LOL, either this means there are none or people think I'm a killer looking to wipe the population out LOL. Maybe I'll make one of the trials over there and check things out myself. Always wanted to watch a trial and see what it was all about. Do they allow spectators in the field?

What kind of trial you talking about? Rabbit dog trial..........varmint hound trial? On this board we hunt and run rabbit dogs for the most part so the fact that you didnt get an answer on running "cat" hounds really doesnt mean squat. You may go up there and run into a fair population. Who knows?

Budd,

I know there are some up that way. It is big country and is getting harder to get around in all the time as land owners are gating all roads in and out. My brother spends more time out that way then I do. I will ask him the next time I talk to him what kind of sign he seen while deer hunting.

Buckeye Blues, I was talking beagle trials. Figured the best people to ask were the one's running rabbit since rabbit are on top of the bobcats menu. Were I find good concentration of hare around here while beagling I usually find a cat or two holding up there as well.
Thanks for the info GlaciarRidge, if you don't mind asking your brother that would be great. Hoping I can make the trip over with Harehound when he comes, can talk more on it then ;).

Not sure about the cat population near Connorville, I know I've only seen one bobcat track in 5 years up this way. the Eastern side seems to hold more cats. But thats JMO, maybe I haven't found the strong holds. Plenty of wolf and yotes.

For Beagle trials, if you don't get to one this winter, try coming over to Lake Superior in the Fall. Other than ours, Borderline puts on a nice trial.

Most of the Large Pack have designated areas for the Gallery. Northland Beagle club has a gallery location where you can view or listen, to a fair bit of the running.
Beagling is not a science, just an opinion!
