Another stud fee question

Post by Tecumseh »

If a guy is advertising a stud for a 100$ stud fee, and you wanna bred your female to him, but instead of paying the stud fee the owner of the stud wants a pup from your female because the female your breeding is a good runnin, well bred female. Do you have to give up a pup or can you decline and pay the 100$ stud fee like everyone else that's took a female to him.

money says pay the stud fee because you prop have a $250 -$300 pup that can be sold, but the right thing to do for the sport would be give a pup. I would give a pup if the pup is going to be in the right hands to trial or be given the platform to promote the sire and dam.

tough spot, but very good question.

My comment is not directed to Tecumseh or anyone in particular

If you you and I reached an agreement that I would take a female pup rather that a stud fee, then that is a contract. And that can only be set aside by both of us agreeing to do so. You would not have the privelage of deciding what you wanted to do after the pups were born. After all, "a man's word in his bond."

In the past when standing one of my males at stud or beeding to another stud for a female pup. If both partys are honorable people and the bitch only throws one or two female pups, I have taken or given a stud fee rather than the pup because the person or I wanted a female pup from the litter.

It is always best to resolve this issue by agreement rather than the attitude of " they are my pups and I will do what I want to about the agreement". If that happened when some one bred to one of my males, you can bet your arse those pups would never be registered because I would not acknowledge the breeding to any registery. BTW, I always handel the breeding of my males and females.

My point here is. In our sport of Beagleing. one of the major problems is that many Beaglers do not keep their word and this has caused wide spread distrust.

Just my opinion--- At the end of the day, a man's reputation should be worth far more than a Beagle pup.

We Dont Stud ours Much but When we do it is usually 2nd pick of the litter or price of a Pup...So If your Sellin pups for $250 to $300 thats our price or Second pick..You Dont agree we dont do the breeding!! Probably Why We usually just breed our Own LOL

TC,
Thats what I was trying to get at with my post......I have to agree with you 100% on this.

Also really like the fact the you say 2nd pick. I have seen stud owners try to get 1st pick. Often thought they really meant first pick after the owner of the dam made his, but later found out that they REALLY meant first pick of the entire litter (never made sense to me).
