Missing Heads...

Post by CHAD CAMPBELL »

I know i have read about this subject before but can't find the post. What is it that kills rabbits and tears the head off but leaves alot of the remains? Hawk? Owl?

I know an owl will do that to chickens. If the body is left alone they will usually come back the next night for it.

Cats will kill for fun, you fined rabbits with neck matted rabbit dead but just whole,They will carry off little ones to mess with. Hawks like to go right at the gut. as will weals. If its owls don't spend the money on fancy owl light, just put out a stran (or more) of blinking colored christmas lights. (pole set will help with anythig that flys). If its cats scope them or live trap tuna works, If weals small weal box trap with chinken parts. Fox & yote this time of year carry off the whole thing to the den for young. this is what we seen here JMO good luck

It might be a mink. I knew of a guy that lost a lot of chickens that way . Just the head gone , and it was a mink. They just go for the high protein in the brain I was told.

I got a friend that has about a three acre pen and last year we put about 40 young rabbits in it. He has only seen a few of them probably about a handful but yet he finds nothing showing they have been killed or died. He finds no remains and does have some poles set that are pretty steady for arial attacks. We started raising rabbits to put into his pen as the numerous wild rabbits came up missing a few years ago when the pen was loaded with them. He can't seem to get a handle on what is wiping him out all the time but as I said he continues to have success with the poles. Any ideas of what could wipe out 40 rabbits in a matter of a month or so and never leave any evidence behind?
