You are just like others worrying about matters that no one can change. I hope I'm not typing a paragraph that long when I retire in 10 more years.

I agree! Give it up already! Everyone now knows that according to MO law the guy that shot at a rabbit that Joey's dogs were running was acting within the law. BIG DEAL! That doesnt mean that it was the most sportsman-like thing to do and im betting that 90% of the people on here wouldnt like it if it happened to them! You have been hung up on Joey's post about long enough. Your beating a dead horse!

Man, I don't know why your jumping his stuff!

I live in the state and I had no idea if it were legal or not but I assumed the answer is what it was.. Thanks for posting and giving the section of the law. It could come in handy one day. The game warden in my county said it was pretty much legal to except the shooter had to try and hit the rabbit and couldnt just be tryin to scare your game or your dogs..
God isn't real, Beer is good and people are crazy, there I fixed it.

Good lord friend you have made more post's in this thread than he has. Just a thought but it sounds like you have a case of the ME ME syndrome and need to realize the world doesnt revolve around you and what you want. Right or wrong some of us was actually interested as to what the law said. Maybe someone needs to take his own advice and "Go run dogs or something" instead of attacking people having a civil conversation

i have read all the post on this topic and i look at it like this, Joey and his hunting party pulled up on a group of hunter already in the area.(if you can see them they are hunting the area) they did not bother to try to talk to the guys that were already hunting in the area and let them know they were going to be hunting in the area. the guys hunting may have felt the same way Joey did when they shot over his dogs. I dont blame joey for being mad but he has some fault in this whole thing as well. Joey and his hunting party are the ones who decided to hunt that close to the other party. no body has the heard the other side of the story to see how the others involved feel. none of us like people crashing our hunts but yet we still do it to others and then grip about it when it is done to us, I dont understand.

There's a little trick on these here magical type writers Lee. Its called copy and paste. He didn't spend all his time typing the paragragh. Good grief!

Warddog, Thanks for posting your findings. I think most of us are aware of the laws. Ohio has the same law that all game belongs to the people until someone harvests it. There's no doubt who that rabbit belonged to. It belonged to the guy that killed it. On the other hand there are ethics. You just dont knowingly drop in the middle of someone elses hunt no matter which side of the law you are on. To me, a TACTFUL, EDUCATIONAL, butt knawing would be in order. After which I would tell the guy to enjoy the rabbit he harvested over my dogs, and then I would pack them all up and head to a new spot. Why would I be the one to move? Because I dont want me or my dogs to be anywhere near a guy or group of guys like that after I knawed on them. Especially since its public land and I have no right to shoo them away.

Come on down to harnet county and kill a rabbit in front of my dogs whether it be right or wrong i bet you will be leaving with a attitude adjustment and won't ever think about doing it again. And by the way being a retired cop does not impress me as most of them are as crooked as the game wardens now days so go run some dogs and quit attacking others that are having more fun then you.

I understand the daily bag limit numbers but I have some confusion about the possession limit which seems to be two daily bag limits. In this case of rabbits we are talking 6 daily for a possession limit of 12. My question on this is, if I am hunting there all week and fill my daily bag limit of 6 for two hunting days so that I have 12 rabbits in my relatives freezer identified in my name would I then be in violation of the law if I hunted with my dogs the next day (Yes; it would be a violation to take rabbits beyond your possession limit)

The way the reply reads is that the bag limit only applies to the hunter (with 2 bag limits). It doesn't apply to the dogs, so you can legally take the dogs to the field and have them run rabbits as long as you don't harvest anything above the 12 rabbit possession limit. Any other members of your party could take game from those hounds. You can also carry a firearm because other game (in season and covered under your non-res small game tag) can still be harvested legally.
