Miniature Beagles??????
Our Secretary at work is looking for a miniature Beagle. (she thinks a regular Beagle would be to big). She wants one for a pet and it would mostly stay in the house. She wont quit bugging me about it so I told her today I would try to find one for her. Anyone know of anyone that raises any? The closer to Illinois the better.

You can find some 10" and 11" beagles. I have a 11" but she's not for sale for any money. Are they miniature.. depends upon what you call miniature. I tried a search on http://www.google.com . I guess there's a few people out there claiming to have "miniature beagles for sale" Take a look. Good luck!

Stony, I had a woman call last week about 2 beagles that I was selling. While talking to her, she said that her and her husband bred small beagles. She said 9" to 12" beagles. They didn't have pups right now, but I believe starting in March they would have pups. They are located near Vandalia, MO which is about 40 minutes from Pittsfield, IL. Don't know where you are in IL but if interested I can give you her name and phone #.

Mobeagles,
Send me that name and number if you would. I live about 60 miles West of Quincy and I think she lives closer to Pittsfield.
Thanks for the help on the "Minature"/ "small" / "little" / whatever you want to call them. I dont care what they are called she just wants a small one.

Miniature beagles, or Elizabethan Beagles, are very rare, and most say they did not make it from england. Riders/hunters loved these small dogs because they would fit into their saddle bag until they could find a suitable place to hunt. Queen elizabeth had the runts bred for size & Scenting ability, and is rumored to have had an entire pack that stood only 9" high.
I too am lookng for these dogs, but unfortunately it is tough to come by well bred small dogs. The dogs tend to get bred only for size, not health or hunt. I Have a 1 1/2 year old female that is a small 11" and has toms of hunt but unfortunately there are 0 good lines here. If anyone who has a small 11 or under male wants to set something up, by all means, send me a message. I got a hunting bred male but unfortuately he has outgrown my female and is only 7 months.
Hope you enjoyed my history lesson of the day, and happy hunts.

We have a little lemon/white runt bitch that you can carry inside your hunting coat. She is great for brushpiles & thick fence rows but if the rabbit leaves for open ground, she gets left behind. She is about 11" & is proportioned correctly for her size, a lot of small ones are just short on leg with long bodies. We have used her as a puppy starter & she has relentless hunt to jump & keep the rabbit moving for the puppies without pushing the rabbit out of the thicket area. I guess it's true, nature waste nothing...Patch
