Why not Deer?
I'v just resently got into running beagles for deer hunting.It seems as far as web pages go I'm the only one doing it, Every thing is rabbit hunting. I'v found in thick cover a beagle is best for deer plus they dont run them to the next county. I guess what I'm asking is there any sites that aim more towards deer beagles?
I can't think of any off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are some. Rev. Griffith and a few others that visit here also run their hounds on deer and some run them on fox, coyote, pheasant & quail, etc. Most of us rabbit hunt or field trial or both with our beagles, (they won't let us flatlanders up here hunt deer with dogs) but this is a pro-hunting site and we're always open to hear about other kinds of hunting. We're just a bunch of meat-eating fools, lol!
If you can round up enough folks who run deer and get on the computer, I will create a separate forum for hunting beagles on other game. I might do that anyway. Meanwhile, feel free to talk about your beagles and game here anytime. Welcome to the board!

I hunt in Smithfield and other surronding countys and there are plenty of people here that would be interested in this site. Thanks Shane-

Even though I try to run rabbits only with my beagles I have had a couple that would do a right fine job on deer! And were talking clear into the next county!!!
But like my drunken brother in law that lives in our barn we never talk about it! Thank goodness for the advent of the shock collar. Now if I could just hold my brother in law down long enough to get it on his neck!!!

I would not take any thing for my deer running beagles. Nothing better to me in the world, besides when you kill one there's plenty of meat. I have hunted deer with my hounds for years and was one of the founding members of the American Beagle Foxhound Association 20 years ago. There must be something about those deer that really make those hounds want to run, or you rabbit hunters would not have such a hard time keeping them off of them. Just my 2 cents worth...

Here, in south Arkansas, we are allowed to run deer with dogs. Like most beaglers, I try to never run deer with my beagles. Last fri three of our dogs lest out on a deer and my young male is still gone. 
. I am shopping around for a E Collar now. If you rabbit hunt with beagles, you know the hunt is over ir a deer is jumped and you stand a chance of losing your dog . We also have many coyotes and a beagle stands a chance of being killed if left overnight in the hugh lease I am on.
