The other GPS

Post by Kazoo »

I remember seeing another GPS tracking unit with a training collar attached. Don't remember the make but I do remember it was considerably less money than the Garmin Alpha. Never hear any comments about it tho. Is it still being made? Anybody have any experience with it?

the sportdog tek 1.0LT GPS tracking and training its 200 cheaper than alpha with unit and 1 collar but the additional collars are 50 dollars more than the alpha so if you buy a few collars its about the same or more

dont know anyone that gots one though

I bought the sport dog tek 1.0 , the customer service is second to none but the product would be a great tool if i hadnt of had to send in all my collars and both handhelds they were plagued with little things, mostly batteries and related issues, the replacements are supposed to be user friendly but if my money were going to be spent on another system i would definatley try the garmin alpha, in sportdogs defense they have fixed all my issues and thus far its been six months without any issues i am sure both systems have their quirks the biggest thing is the map feature and when the rumored tek 2.0 comes out my system will probably lose value very fast its supposed to out do the alpha features who knows, out of 7 collars and 2 handhelds all went in for repair most for replacement with in a year and a half.

I too , had the Sportdog version. However used the tracking only collars ( 4 of them). Bottom line is they stink. They simply don't hold up. Issue after issue. From lost signal and never getting it back , to constant antenna breaking and loosing signal there. Customer service was great , but just was tired of all the trouble. I was sending a collar back every 2-3 months. They never lasted any longer than that .I hardly ever was able to use the 4 at once because they always had some kind of issue.

I finally traded all of it off and got the Garmin back in July and have no regrets except I should have done it sooner and saved myself the aggravation. Go with the Garmin Alpha. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Another issue with Sportdog was they didn't fit a beagle's neck that well. A collar itself doesn't go small enough and I always had to add foam rubber weather stripping to make them fit.The combo collar may fit better , but I never used them.

HEY wireman, the foam did work i tried that, after the sportdog thing we had on their site they took my whole system redid it they said they gave me the newest technology they had , i have had the collars doing better and the handhelds still unlink from time to time , but i agree we paid a premium price to test their gear for them, and like i said on the sport dog site the product never really improved so when this stuff dies its garmin for me wireman if you get time pm me with the details on the garmin fit , range my dogs look like they have a spare tire around their next with the sport dog

They removed me from their forum and blocked me. I simply posted my opinion in what I thought to be in a respectful way. My opinion was based on my experience and use of their system after 2 years. They didn't like the truth I guess.

I would say that the garmin system is better for sure quite a bit priceyer ,but forsure with it's own issues otherwise there wouldn't be such a long post on the locking up
