There used to be a picture of Syris on a stud ad on a website, I can't remember which website it was on? Is this dog mostly black and tan?

Im not trying to butt in the middle of this but for the people that are interested in seeing Syris's pedigree and what he looks like go to the online pedigrees website and do a search for him and you will see his Pedigree and a picture of him.

First off Jamie and Rick, if I've embarrassed either of you with my comments then I apologize to you. That wasn't my intention if such did occur. I just simply felt the urge to defend two of my friend's decision against those that were criticizing them.

Aaron why you felt the urge to tell me that I should end things here or there, is beyond me. I didn't chastize you for asking your question nor did I call you nor anyone else a fool. Were you criticizing Jamie and Rick for not allowing everyone to run against Sy? NO! I can't see what you wrote anymore to qoute you as you did me, because you either edited or deleted your post. But honestly as far as I can remember I only saw you ask one question. A question which was answered, by not only me, but Jamie refering you to ask Rick any question.

As for the "can you say nose?" comment if you're offend then sorry. The comment wasn't specifically meant towards you nor anyone else that was positive with their questions or comments. That was just a way of me insinuating, that a few certian people would probably be skeptical of my comments on how the dog run given I was in opposition of their criticizing the "soloing ordeal". As for anyone needing a foot up their behind, if you feel froggy then by all means jump if you feel the need to.

As for being pissed, yes I do get pissed, upset, sickened, whatever else you wish to call it, when people ask for my opinion or anyone else's on how a dog runs. Then afterwards throw a hissy fit when we don't tell them what they wish to hear or agree with their opinion on how that dog runs. In other words I've seen several times people ask opinions on dogs only to set guys up and just criticize those that are giving the opinion. I'm not saying you through a hissy fit nor saying you were going to disagree with my comments on Syris's nose or the way he ran. I honestly thought you had good intentions in asking the positive question that you did.

As for being wishing for anyone to be scared; if you or anyone else is then it'd be the first time I ever frightened anyone. If I'm indeed an ass as you suggest then you obviously have a big brother or white knight complex in contrast. Sorry if you were offended, but had I said something negative about Aaron Comeau then maybe you'd have reason to be upset or threaten someone. As for getting several opinions on how a dog run I don't blame you. And I would hope to God that you wouldn't take my opinion nor anyone else's on here as the gospel on the dog. But instead go watch him for yourself, when he's returned closer to you. I've never seen the dog run on snow or in conditions that you northerners sometimes get, but given how he ran in 95 degree weather I don't think I'd be wrong in assuming that he could handle the cold weather and poor scenting in ice/snow just as well.

In closing, I think you took my comments the wrong way. But I'm man enough to apologize to you if for some reason anything I said was negative towards you personally.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that causes controversy on these boards!!! LOL Must be something about the name Jamie and being from KY! I am good friends with Rick Giermata and a big fan of Sy's as well as his brothers The Woofman and Little Sammy. I have gunned over all 3 of these dogs and seen them all in trials. Last November I had the pleasure of having Syris at my place for the whole month and since I was laid off I gunned him all day long for 6 days a week. Couldn't ask for a nicer dog to shoot rabbits off of if you like a fast dog. Everybody that hunted over him with me loved him.Never anything but desire to punish a rabbit when he is on the ground and is probably the most consistent dog I ever saw. Perfect gentleman in the kennel until you open the door! He is also one of the smarter dogs I have had the pleasure of spending time around. I brought him back down from NY this past May for a breeding and when we put him in a chain link kennel with the female he took care of business and within 3 minute figured out how to unlatch the gate. I love his arrogant attitude, he will walk away from you when you pet him if he does not want to be petted, but if he does he will stand against your leg and let you scratch his ears for 10 minutes at a time. I have seen him run in a foot of snow when the temp.s were about -5 to start and seen him walk a rabbit down a coal dirt raod when it was over 90! I watched him run in a LPH trial one day after not being out of the kennel for 3 weeks and place 4th in a class of about 35 big males. Jamie Rice and Jamie Hilbert, don't worry to much about the negativity on the boards, wait until you are at a trial and people find out Syris is there! It is something to watch and I am glad Rick trusts me enough to let me be a small part of it. I had Syris in Indiana the first time Bev met him, watched a young boy recognize him and drop to his knees and hug the dog until I thought he would smother him. You can tell who the ignorant ones are by the looks and comments but let me tell you they are the minority and like one of you said more than likely jealous.I hope nobody breeds to him because I have 3 pups here from him and two from Woof. It is like having people in the kennel instead of beagle pups, I sometimes feel bad about leaving them outside because they have so much intelligence and personality. I shot rabbits over a 5 month old pup this year out of Syris, could have done it a month earlier but didn't want to push him. He was running at 14 weeks, soloing at 4 months and making older dogs look stupid at 5 months. I have seen Blue Syris run also, unreal speed for such a young dog. First time we saw the rabbit cross the road not 10 feet from me I told Rick they must be on a split track. Blue Syris came through first then about 20 seconds later the pack came through and I just looked at Rick because I knew he would have a crap eating grin on his face and I was right.
As far as Syris not being run for every body and their brother I don't blame him. They had probably 60 trials to see how their dogs stacked up. He didn't say the dog could not be run at all, just not in a competetive manner. There are many reasons for this I believe including Joe Schmoe bringing a brucellosis hot bitch or dog to run and passing it on to Syris. I know for a fact that when the dog is home he is run for anyone that wants to seriously watch him run.
If you ever do get a chance to run your dogs against Syris be prepared to suffer the cosequences. I have seen dogs quit after an hour and go hide and that is not BS. I have seen others come out of the brush barking like idiots because they couldn't keep up, hold the line or make the turns. One thing the dog does not know is slacking up of any kind. Many just can't take the pressure he puts on and he will not let up, he is one of those rare dogs that will look as good or better after 6 hr.s on the ground.
Take good care of my buddy while he is down there Jamie. I know Rick misses him already. And to all the doubters I say good, don't breed to him. To all the others I say good, don't breed to him! LOLI'm a little biased huh Bev?

I too feel that the female has MORE to do with the performance of the pups than the sire. I do, however, agree that most studs who have proven themselves in the trial world, have done what they needed to do. But, if the stud owner is not willing to show him in the field, I'd shy away. But as far as Sy is concerned, I've seen what I need to see in the trial reports. Not everyone feels that way though. Depends how bad you want to breed to him. I think his papers tell me all I need to know. I have the GOOD bitch and know what she'll produce.
We have a judge here in VT who owns females and has finished many of them. Seems to know what he's doing and this guy can have his choice of stud dogs and will produce some GOOD pups. He dosen't want a stud dog. Feels there are enough out there for a good choice. Wish more felt that way. I'm convinced enough to start trialing females.

Fuzz, I read your post again to try and figure out if I had mis-read it. Maybe it was because you posted directly after mine, or maybe it was because typed words can't show emotion or intent, but because of certain comments you made, I felt lumped into your frustration. It was obviously not typed with that intent and I appologize for my outburst. I dont pull any punches, I have no agenda, and dogs are dogs to me. I am a houndsman and I call it like I see it. Sometimes it offends people, but thats the way it is. I believe in one thing when it comes to relationships and dogs and thats "Brutal Truth". This is a misunderstanding and I applogize.

KY Beagle, earlier on I’ve read a little about Sy but nothing specific about his jumping ability. I can’t get enough of a really good jump dog! He sounds like an awesome dog. I’m still debating on breeding my best little female and I’m having a hard time convincing myself to do it. I’m crazy about her and never had or seen one please me like this one so of course I’d like another for the future. BUT I’m so crazy about her I’m afraid to breed her. Thank you very much for the information!

I was expecting to get hammered again Bill, but you made my night!!! LOL I am not a car salesman but maybe I should think about it! Got to beat making hose clamps like I am doing now! If any of you know Homer Swift you can ask him about Syris too, I know he made a trip to NY recently and watched the dogs run and spent some time with Rick. Thanks again for the chuckle Bill.
