What line of dogs throws cold trailing
Not to cause a problem but i have been looking for years for a dog that will cold trail. For those that don't know what i'm talking about. I am not talking about and idiot that barks everytime it smells old rabbit scent. I know many of you have seen that dog that can hit a track move it faster than most open occasionally then jump the rabbit. The type of dog that makes alot of progress and jumps the rabbit. Hare hunters and rabbit hunters know what i mean. To some this dog is worth alot and to others it is a cull. I have been searching for a good cold trail dog for years and personally have never found one. I have seen many but never had the opportunity to get my hands on one.
My questions is. There has to be someone breeding this type dog or a line of dogs that produces this trait. Who or what is it?
Yes i know the norm is for the dog not to open until the rabbit or hare is jumped but under certain circumstances a dog that cold trails is preferable.
I know there has to be someone out there that know what i am talking about and where to look for it.

cold trail
Dear Sir.
My Rambo dog is an excellent "cold trailer" and superb hunter!
His cold trailing is great when rabbits are scarce and the one he is trailing needs to be jumped. Usually he jumps his rabbit, field trials are not patient enough and he gets penalized, which is understandable. He finds and runs rabbits the other hounds can't bark on, especially at zero degrees and powder snow. He has NEVER not been able to run a rabbit in any condition!!
If bred to a cold nosed female he will produce cold nosed pups. Bred to "hot" nosed females, the pups usually have just the right amount of nose.
I also have a cold nosed 13" female Dora that i would sell, she needs more time in the field, she is almost 2 yrs.

cold nosed 2
When making a breeding, i've noticed if the female has a good nose and then bred to Rambo, the pups will have exceptional noses. When bred to poor nosed females the pups gain nose but not to the point of excessive.
I doubled up on Rambo (son x grand daughter) and got one female with just as much or more cold trailing.
I would have to say line breeding brings out the nose the most!
