Stopping a young dog from chewing collars off other dogs???

This is a new one on me. Any ideas? It's started getting costly. She's 8 months old.

I had the same problem using leather collars. I bought day-glo collars and they stop chewing them. If you have an e collar you might watch your dog and give him a hit with it to stop the chewing.

All pups like to chew on things and collars are just handy for them especially when rough housing with other dogs. I just take mine off of them when kennelled with other dogs untill they grow out of it. And all of mine at least have grown out of that stage.

Just put you a couple of the brass ribbets that are used to hold the name plates on near the end of the collar.. They'll quit chewing when they hit them.

Great tips guys. I have the same problem with two 10 month-old pups and the cost of collars isn't cheap. I liked the rivet one from Bunnycide and i'll try that first. If that doesnt work i'll try the pepper spray. Happy running guys.

Next time your at the store get a bottle of pepper and mix it in a pan of water and soak the collars in the solution let it dry and put it back on the dog. The next time the pup chews on it it will set her free quick.

Contact slip check supplies and put on chain collars. They cost 9.50 a piece and no puppies can chew through them.

Be careful that any pepper application is only on the outside of the collar. I've seen people "dip" a whole collar, and the end result is a beagle with a very irritated neck that gets scratched and later infected.

Had a pair of Slip Check collars last 10 years on the same 2 hounds. They never rusted either.

I buy chain leads at Walmart. The dainty ones with the pretty leather handles. Cut them to length. Use two S hooks and a name plate. I have about two dollars in the collar and they last for about two years. They last longer if you check the name plate and S hooks for wear and replace them when they wear thin. I forget and the dog eventually loses the collar in the field.
