I have used it on several young dogs. Seems to do a good job, isn't near as harsh as other puppy wormers. I have never had a problem while using it or after with any health issues. It was recommended to me by a coonhound breeder that has been in the business and successful for several years.

Check the ingridents of pin worm medicine at your drug store. May find it to be same as nemex 2 just 10 times the strength. Low $ compared to high $. Talk to Hound and Horse Supply, Inc. in Florida. He will ship. He can also get you a good dip Taktic? (more for your $) Ask your questions.

I agree, I use it and know a lot of others who use it and have used it for a long time without any problems.
But there is always someone out there who doesn't like Nemex or Ivomec or some other medication we use for our hounds. I've used Ivomec for years now without any problems and still have people swear it will cause kidney problems. My vet says it is the best there is as long as you don't overdo it (but then that's true with anything).
Hey Wayne - See you at the State Hunt!

Nemex II (pyrantal pamoate) is one of the safest de-wormers to give dogs. It is hard to Overdose a dog with it (even pups). But care should still be taken when using any medicine. More is not better.
You should consider the source of the information. Is it someone trying to get you to switch de-wormers for some reason or was it someone without bias?
I have used it for a long time and it the active ingrediant (pyrantal pamoate) is recommended in my college cirriculum for standard deworming. Ivermectin is also recommended for the other parasites that the "Nemex II" doesn't get including mites, lice, and viseral nematodes. It is used in livestock, domestic animals, exotics, and wildlife. I have personally used it with deer, goats, lions, tigers, dogs, cats, wolves, servals, and caracols (just to name a few).
Both products will remain in my de-worming protocol unless scientific research disproves it's effectiveness.
Good luck!!!

The Nemex type wormer is probably the most commonly used liquid wormer for pups. I NEVER heard of a problem with it before now. I usually use the Lassie version as it is the one sold at Walmart but RFD, Hartz, and many more have the same ingredients. The Nemex II is "double strength" which makes precise dosing more critical in pups but should still be safe unless you are WAY off on dosage. The double strength is also better choice in "big dogs" as it would take half a 60 ml bottle of single strenth to treat a 30 pound beagle! I personally use something else for the "big dogs" anyhow. I think the wormer they are concerned about MAY have been VALBAZEN - a cattle product.
I think Chuck Terry is right about the Valbazen as there has been a lot of discussion on this product. My wife works at Pfizer so she gets it from the employee store and I use both Nemex II and Valbazen. I only use the Nemex II for pups and pregnant females. The Valbazen I use very sparingly and only about one treatment every four months unless my dogs are chewing on alot of rabbits or show signs of a worm infestation. I also use Ivomec monthly for heartworm prevention.
Nemex is good & safe.
We've used Valbazen since George Blane (I think it was) came out with it's usefulness of worming hounds in the Rabbit Hunter Magazine 15-16 yrs. ago,(he had the use of Ivomec story in there also).
We've give it to puppies for worming & with coccidia and it has worked for us with no ill effects.
Use what you feel works and is safe...

Thanks for all the info everyone.
Keith the only reason i posted was because i couldn't find anything bad about it on any posts. And i didn't want to do harm to my dogs. But now i remember that the bad wormer i think you are talking about is HARTZ you can get that stuff at wal-mart. I remembered reading about how bad it was the only way i remebered was Chuck Terry mentioned it. Nothing against chuck or anyone that uses it but i have heard alot of bad things about it so i will not use any Hartz medications.

The only Hartz Mountain product that I have heard bad things about is the Flea and Tick killer/repellent that you put on the dogs back. I do not use that nor any other similar SYSTEMIC product including Spot-on, Bio-spot, or even Frontline. IF I had to use one, I would use Frontline. I use Frontline and Addams in the spray form. Anything that is absorb through the skin and is then concentrated enough in the blood to kill fleas and ticks must have long-term affects on the dogs nervous system and/or vital organs in my way of thinking.
