Lance : in areas the size of a football feild if the land isn't real steep you will not have to spray roundup to get rid of the fescue, it surprises me they would tell you that. Turn the fescue under with the tractor and turning plow as soon as it gets dry enough. Let it lay for about a week and then disk it up with the disk ,when you get it cut up good: apply lime from local farm store ; pellitized is easier to use 500 lbs per acre and 12-24-24 fertilixer at 300 lbs per acre take a couple large poles or railroad ties about 8 ft long connect them together with a couple of 2x4's put the poles or ties about 2 or 3 apart one directly behind the other pull this drag over the feild to level it some. Now buy you lespedeza, turnips, crimson clover, white clover ( buy small amounts of these seeds 1 lb each) mix those with ryegrass and sow at 200 lbs per acre . after sowing seeds pull disk back over the feild in the none cutting position just leave little lines and you should be on your way to improved habitat. Is there a stream or water near? Water is important and if there is a stream going thru the farm check with the USDA in your area for possible CPR grants. Call your county Agriculture Agent and ask him for advise . They often will have programs that may help purchase seed or something. Hope this helps

tnbeagleman, thats the type of advice I've been looking for! Plowed a ridge top today that is about 150 yds x 30 yds and is surrounded by cedar thicket. Actually the ground was alot better that I thought it would be. Good looking soil and not much rock at all. Gonna cut it up next week (weather permitting) and do as you say. I hope it works!
