I’m not a good instructor, but I got a tone out of my horn right off the bat. Reason being it is very similar to blowing a trumpet, and I played the trumpet in Junior High School back in the mid 1970’s. After blowing it at half volume for the first “6 blows” I could no longer get a tone. You have to strengthen you lip muscles, and condition them for this. After a couple of weeks I was able to blow the horn at full volume about 6 times or more before my lips would give out. Now about 5 months later I have been “blowing my horn” (no pun intended) full volume at will. If my lips are dry and chafed somewhat from the cold weather, they will crack and bleed when blowing the horn.

I don’t hold my lips real tight against the horn, but I do keep them fairly tight together so to restrict the airflow out of my mouth when blowing into the horn. It really just takes patience. Just keep trying it will finally come to you.
* I enjoy meeting new Beaglers & Squirrel Dog Owners. It's a blessing to find other's with such unique interests.
* I also enjoy helping future hunters.
