breeding
I have 3 pups that are 7 months old now and are doing great. The breeding is Bordercreek MR Truman which is an excellent hunting hound. To his daughter Bordercreeks Miss Nellie, which also is an excellent hunting hound. Both of these hounds do not have any outstanding faults They both have never run off game, both have extremely good hunt and desire. Both are very good jump dogs, Nellie is a little better. I personally do not sell hounds i do this as my hobby or passion. I keep all hounds and cull very hard. If people would look back in the breeding programs of some of the greats, they would see that the fastest way to get what you want is father daughter cross. Now with that in mind, before this cross is done many years of line breeding have already been accomplished to set your likeable traits. The only way i would outcross, would be to bring a favorable trait into my kennel that i am lacking at the present time. One must remember you have to be brutally honest with yourself and your goal as a breeder. We already have way to many avearge hounds out there. As a breeder you must cull very hard. By no way am i a pro at this. But i must say every breeding i do i research for at least 6 months to a year befor deciding. I also keep a log book since the 1980s of every hound and how it progressed from a pup to a muture animal. Every hunting trip out i also keep a log of what hounds i took, weather conditions, temps, humidity, ect. friends that went with that day, how each hound performed and how many hare were harvested. i use all of this info to decide on my next breeding, plus its fun to look back and read 20 years from now. This also gives me a great way to chart the cycle of the Hare when the numbers are up or not.
