ARHA keeps getting compared to other formats all the time. If you think AKC has the better format, go run it. But these are ARHA rules, and if we are going to run it then we must go by their rules. This has already been dicussed time and time again. I say leave LP, LP, and if you don't like it, there is other formats to run.

in my opinion it is not the size of the dog it is the desire and brains the dog has ...i could truly care less what size dog i run against but some folks do care...and as long as there are some that do care and a rule is a rule there will always be this debate...everyone will want to push the height limit as much as possible...boys i dont care if your dog is 18 inches tall if he aint got his head on right he is gonna get a whoopin by a 13 incher...i have seen alot of tall speedy hounds that couldnt solo a rabbit to save their butt...i have some that are 15...i just prefer 13 ...and i will continue to run my 13 whether everybody run coonhounds or foxhounds or whatever if them big hounds aint got the power and the brains to put it all together they will fall regardless of size...and everytime somebody has a hound measured at a trial they are looked at as a$$holes well the rule is there and it is there option to do so...thats all i got to say about that...tracy

this was intended as a topic for discussion, some people had some interesting input such as an official mesurement, and an official way to measuring a dog.

the thing is there are a lot of dogs out there that are right there at 15 inches,i have one,all it takes is one person measuring him different at a hunt and he is disqualified,we have measured him over and over,if we measure him the way the rules say he should be measured,he is right at 14 7/8 - 15 and sometimes 15 1/8,you measure a dog over and over you don't get the same measurement every time.

all i was wanting is input, this forrum is the best voice to make suggestions,i have been told by people from arha and nkc that they do pay attention to topics on here.

what would it hurt for arha to have an official measurement, why should someone have to wonder weather or not they should put time into a dog cause it is right there cloae to 15?

i'm not talkin about tryin to show up with a 17 in dog and enter it,that not it,i am talkin about dogs right there borderline 15,and everyone either has one or knows someone who has one right there at that touchy size,so why not have the official measurement rule, otherwise, all it takes is three times over in a year and it is banned for life.

i am not compairing lp to any other format,i am making a suggestion and a post for discussion,as usual though, you always have the same people tryin to provoke arguments and making remarks about whining instead of doing like others have and giving intelligent input and their oppinion.

Here is some input to the measurement of hounds.

1) All hounds should be measured at the time they are registered with the ARHA and the measurement written on the registration form signed by the breed inspector that measured them.
2) All hounds should be measured before becoming a Champion and also a Grand Champion and the measurement written down by the breed inspector and sent in.
3) When measured by the breed inspector the hound WILL NOT be stacked before measuring the hound.(meaning you can not put your hand under the hound to lift him). The hound is to be in a natural stance and measured at the withers.
4) If at any one of these times the hound is measured over 15" he will not be registered or move up to Ch. or Gr.Ch.

Some dogs can be measured early in age and be ok but when they get ready to become Ch or Gr Ch they can measure over.Put this into the rules along with being able to measure hounds at the hunts and less dogs over 15'' will be competeing.

If people choose to compete in ARHA events with their hounds there are rules to follow and abide by as with ALL registries. Find one that has the rules to suit you and the style of hound you like to run.

Food for thought!

rules are rules. As murl says it has always been 15. Now if somebody measures my dogs out i will judge a round. As far as the bully remark?
I aint no bullie but have earned respect of several of my peers with sportmanship and respect . So the next time you want too start on somebody it aint me brother. What do you do for a living anyway? ;)
