Will lime cut down Kennel smell.......

My father used to use it under the kennels. But I have more experience with it in the horse barn. We use it cause it sanitizes the ground in the stalls. Kills smells and gets rid of flys.

I don't know about it being hydrated. We always use pulverised ag lime. Like you get at the garden center, or feed store. The pulverised stuff works a little better, cause theres more surface area for it to react.

It will cause a chemical burn. Its an alkyloid mineral, we use it to neutralized the PH of the soil. It'll burn ya the same as lye will.

Hydrated Lime is what you want, you can get it at your local co-op, I buy it at Southern States or Tractor Supply. It's got similar consistency to flour or Sevin dust.

Use lime and spray with pine sol where you have washed out the kennel.

How much do you dilute down the pine sol?
I've tried pine sol & vani-sol, but the hounds got to sneezing after I did it.
Seemed what smelled good to me, their noses didn't care for...

I just give the trench a dusting of lime now for the smell...

I put about two cups in a two gallon sprayer and then spray the trench.

Ok thanks... Maybe I didn't let it dry out enough before putting them back in...do you let it dry or air out before putting them in?

I've got a couple old ceiling fans I am aiming to put up in kennels to help hurry along the floor drying process..

With the pine sol. I just spray it on and wash it off. The pinesol breaks down the urine and gets rid of the smell.

Hydrated lime works best for me although any type seems to help. I am not a chemist but I have noticed when I put it under above ground kennels you BRIEFLY smell a very strong ammonia odor and then you smell almost nothing - a chemical reaction I guess? Also, the drying action really helps with flies, ants, and other creepy crawlers. I think I unintentionally killed the worms my sons were digging for fishbait near the kennel. Of course, it could have been the borax, chlorox, Happy Jack, sulphur, oil, vinegar, Ivermectin, Albon, Flagyl, Praziquantel, Fenbendazole, sevin, permethrin, merit, or any of the umpteen chemicals that we use down there!
