have used a tracker reciever a few times and wasnt impressed --but to be fair-- it takes time to learn to use a reciever -
a friend got a beagle pup -- so i let him borrow a johnson collar- - pup got old- died of old age- and my freind gave me back my collar --- and im using it now- good strong signal ---its a little big for a beagle but battery life is 16000 hours--not 17 hours
i use them bout 9 months of the year and normally get 4-5 years trouble free use and some twice that
ive seen wildlife tracking boxes still in use 30 years old and collars over 20
ive used the garmin gps colars a few times--------its is great--i love it - i got to have one-
it does stuff that telemetry cant match
but i dont see it replacing telemetry anytime soon - i hope it does --
some other companies in the gps collar business would be great - competition has a way of forcing improvement
-
with the detailed maps added to gps you can stand in one spot and know at a glance which side of the river the dogs are on--or how close to a road
-thats about the most important feature to me
telemetry can do that too , maybe, given enuff time .

it seems i am always on wrong side of river

after using a friends garmin a few times , i was thinking , what do i have , im not using that i could sell to buy one of these--
