Re: Question about Purina ?
It's the blue bag puppy chow I'm using. The pups look great no problem there. I just hate soft stool. I'll look for the purina pro plan puppy mix. I used Old Roy Puppy last time and had OK stool then.

Re: Question about Purina ?
alot of poeple (myself a year ago) look at just the protien, how much is in the feed and the more the better, but it is just like humans a dogs kidneys can only filter/process so much protien and to much will lead to kidney problems/faliure, just like wieght lifters that eat mainly real high protien foods its bad on there liver and kidneys, but i do want a feed that is around 24 to 26 percent protien but i look more and the bottom number (fat percentage) because that is what gives them alot of the energy to burn off, also keeps them warmer in the winter, i think that the closer that you can get the both equal the better, like a 24/20 feed, i think that purina dog chow is like 20/7 or 21/8 to me thats horrible, jmho......but now after i talked to a vet i look more or just as much at the fat percentage in the feed, also it depends on how you run your hounds, if you run them once a week then they dont need a high feed, but if you run 5 times a week they may need a little more, dog food has made some improvements but i dont know if all the improvvments they have made are worth the risk, im afraid that 10 years from now our hounds may be paying for the real high protien based feeds. who knows, everyone likes there own brand of feed, just like everyone likes there own bloodline in there beagles.

Re: Question about Purina ?
I never use Hi-Pro and been feeding Purina Dog Chow with no problems for years. My dogs will run all day and get up and run again.
It is in the breeding and conformation much more than the feed. I won't use hi pro no matter how much I run my dogs and never had a problem with dogs quitting or getting tired.

I'm sure you may know much more than I do about all this , but I've foundNor' Easter wrote:It's the blue bag puppy chow I'm using. The pups look great no problem there. I just hate soft stool. I'll look for the purina pro plan puppy mix. I used Old Roy Puppy last time and had OK stool then.
that many people have loose stool due to over feeding or inconsistant
feed times . Other things could factor in too but often times the two
above could be the problem .
