i love to watch pups run and progress and the diffrent mouths, but i think alot of it is to find that great one, nothing better to get that one that just tears it up and show it off to your friends.

i would have to say watching the two 9 week old pup tease the two older to dogs at feeding time because there getting more food actually the one pup will throw the food through the fence to my 7 month old pup its pretty entertaining to watch...

I was introduced to rabbit hunting when I was 10 years old.... 33 years go. I have been addicted to every aspect
of it since then. If i had to pick the one thing out above all that is wonderful with this sport / hobby / life, is the
companionship of the hound to the owner.

I love my hounds as I do my children. When they are pounding the hell out of a bunny I am as pround of that as I
was watching my son get his first sack as middle linebacker. I love taking them out of the box and having my running
partners compliment me on how beautiful they are. At the end of the day when they can hardly walk, and they are bloodied
from the chase, I know that they would do their best to get one more run in for me if I asked them to, but they know I
will not, I repect their limits.

I enjoy watching other houndsmen with their hounds as well, we all speak our own language and out hounds respond
to that. Many of you feel the same of your hounds asd I do mine... they are the world to us.

If it were not for the hound, we would have nothing to talk about on here, nothing to compare, certainly nothing
to bicker about. So yes... that is theone thing I love most about it all... is our relationships with our hounds.

Time is what I love the most. I was sitting on the tailgate this summer with some friends that I enjoy spending my time with thinking about that. I like the hounds, and all the stuff that they do, but I must say that I like the time spent out, away from work and phones and people i cannot trust. Time spent with those who mean the most in the end, family and friends. As time does so often it pushes some people away and others ever so closer but I will always remember the time spent with these people, the stories and the memories live forever long after hound and houndsman have passed.

Running and gunning with friends, but it has been a long time. Other than that, I equate running to golf. Every so often I get a good outing and fuels the desire to go again. Seems before deer season started, I was throwing a lot of clubs. though

They put so much out there and ask for so little in return. I think alot of hunters look at beagles as a low budget, lower class sort of thing. I believe a pack of beagles will in a typical day out work any bird dog out there, and the things they do just amazes me in the field. following the scent of a tiny rabbit through all that mess they go through. Watching dogs progress into something you trained, and raised. It's a blessing... all you have to do is introduce people and they get bit by that bug too. It's addictive. enjoying them with friends is an unbeatable experience. Something about that sound of a pack rolling one through the woods and the echo that you know others can hear from a long ways away.

I guess the thing that impresses me is the hard work a beagle will do hour after hour chasing a rabbit he will never catch (unless your name is Bev, Chapko, and Alabama John). Hour after hour they run to the point of exhaustion and all they ask for is some good food, warm dry bed, plenty of water and a pat on the head.

Im a platoon sergeant in the Army and father of four, never had a kid or soldier work so hard for so little. I guess with beagles it seems like Im getting a great return on my investement. With kids you must work hard, spend all your money, and hope and pray after 18 years you did it right. With a beagle you invest 18 months and if not satisfied you give it away.

Young dogs is where its at, although my kids want to start hitting the trials so I guess Ill have to keep a couple finished dogs for once.

1. Time with just a man, his dogs, and the great outdoors
2. Time with friends, family, camp fire and the great outdoors.
3. Trials, with liars, cheaters, braggers, trash talkers, wishfull thinkers, true houndsmen, good food, and guys almost as clueless as me! :loser:

Going down that two track road with two foot of snow with not another person within 20 miles, out of cell phone range and getting stuck. $400 towing bill

Arguing with the wife because you have spent your entire Christmas vacation running dogs. One really bad headache

Spending the money for the house payment on a new set of shock collars and trackers.....$1200

That pup starts yipping on a stupid rabbit track just before dark in the middle on nowhere.....priceless.....for everyone else there is tree hugging. :approve:

I think when they go out of hearing then you start hearing them come back and you realize that rabbit may possibly be coming toward you. I just get so excited the adrenalin is flowing. Also when a pup opens for the first time cant get no better than that. Then that bed jump kinda of scares ya when one lets out that hair raisin squall...lol then of course goin back over it all with your buds on the way home...we still have times when we talk about past hunts , dogs , good memories good times. Im so fortunate to have been able to do this ..dont ever take it for granted..give THANKS..

The bond created between hound and houndsman. To see the fire in their eyes when you start toward the kennel, especially when you have a gun in hand and they know it is time to get'er done. Droping the tailgate and knowing that they are going to give you 110% in whatever conditions. That's what it is about for me. We ask so much of them, and they absolutely love it. All they ask for in return is a little TLC.

It is great to get out with family and friends and spend time in the field. Enjoying God's creation. Having a pup open for the first time and watching them progress is all just icing on the cake.

Bottom line the bond with your hounds.......priceless!!!!!

The more people I meet, the more I love my dogs!

What I love best is watching the dogs have fun, sensing their excitement on the way to the field, and the first cast.

That...and watching my dogs catch rabbits. You haven't lived until you've seen a dog catch a rabbit.
