true jump dogs are few and far between. any good rabbit dog will jump some rabbits ..
but real jump dogs are a thing of beauty.
i had a grade female the best jumpdog i ever owned .. she wind scented alot ....her name was angel ..turn her off the tailgate and she ,would do her business and then stay in a trot till she found one pretty much .. i seen her go down paths many times and all the sudden throw the brakes on ,,go in and in second the rabbit was up and going.

I haven't seen a "true jumpdog" in a while. I'm not saying they arent out there but I just haven't seen any in a while. I'm talkin about the dogs that can go in the dead middle of the day, scenting at its worst, not many rabbits, lots of hunting pressure, and find rabbits! I've seen dogs that are pretty good at it but a "true jumpdog" is one that just has a knack for it! I've seen dogs kill theirselves hunting but hardly ever jump a rabbit! I'd like to have a "true jumpdog" again, I owned a grade dog one time that could find a rabbit if there was one to be found, and I don't care what the circumstances was, or where it was, he would show you a rabbit!

It's the hardest trait there is to breed for.
Re: to heck with the check dog how bout jump dogs!!!
out of all the dogs that I own The best Jump dog of them all is my little daisy dog. Hands down she is the jump dog of the bunch. Not only is she a jump dog but she is also my best brush pile dog. I tell her to go in she comes out with a rabbit. People have seen her in action at the brushpile game. I don't have another like her and probably never will again. She was born Dec 2004 her face is starting to turn white. I'll gun her till she can't no more. I call her my little daisy. If you wound one and it crawls off she'll stand over it and sound off let me know where he is laying. If you wound one and it crawls into a hole she'll stand at the hole and bark and dig at it. I still remember a time when she had one trapped in a brushpile. I told my buddy stay right there she'll get him out. Took her a good 5 minutes and buddy yells out the rabbit just shot out of the brushpile and daisy after it like a physco....lol I told him...." I told ya "

Best I had was my old Pop Fannie bitch out of HH Crain's Pop Fanny crossed on Cody's Sharpe Mikie.
She was magic at producing rabbit...
Never forget that little squaw/cry mouth on the jump...

Have saw a couple that were really good at jumping rabbits one was Pine Mountain Voo Doo , a true rabbit dog that would go behind dogs and jump rabbits, another was a dog named New City Scout, big nose a little mouthy but could produce a rabbit, also watched Junie when he was about 5 jump 12 out of 13 rabbits on about 6 or 7 pretty good dogs. One more that was a pretty good jump dog back in his prime was Skyview Cliff, think he was a grandpup to New City Cruiser.

The best I have seen in a long time is my young Patch dog, Cunningham's DK Buster. When he gets anywhere near a briar patch, he is going in it. For a young dog, he shows more willingness to get in the tough places than any dog I have ever owned. I am looking forward to seeing what he becomes with a few more hunting seasons under his belt. The other thing I like is he is still trying to jump a rabbit when the sun starts to go down- there is no quit in him.
