the one thing i worry about more than anything is how many hounds that are 14 7/8 to 15 will be measured over ive seen alot of people put there hands under there chest to hold them up to measure them id say this will happen more now i am a bred inspector and i have seen alot of guys at clubs over the years that dont really know how to correctly measure a hound

That's the fun part of it. You can have a dog measured 15" or under 19 times, and then the 20th be measured out by a judge who has his own 'style'. There's no consistancy in measuring a creature with moving parts. This way, you never know if you've just donated the money until it comes time to measure!

Another intelligent post. Not everybody likes the same things you do.

you are correct it is hard to measure a dog but what im talking about is the people that try to raise them up by putting there hand under there chest. this isnt a natural stance i wouldnt measure and dog that was humped up in the middle on the tips of his toes.

You don't have to like the same things but If you like borderline dogs live with consequences and Don't complain when the 20th time you get measured out. You guys act like your trapped or getting a raw deal. There are options you just dont like them.

I wouldn't either, but for every dog that gets measured like that, there are 100 that cower down and wont stand up in their natural stance.

Rules are rules its by natural stance, if they measure over in a natural stance they should be measured out. It is up to you to call out a judge if he sticks his hand under your hound and tries to "correct" or change the hounds natural stance.

I say if you have a dog on the edge you live on the edge. Look at the other side also I have seen dogs measured incorrectly that were an inch taller than they measured. I hope measureing doesn't create a problem. Ukc has done it for years and it is fairly consistent. It keeps a more even playing field for all. This also keeps the people who like 13" beagles in the game since they do not seperate them. I think measureing will be good for all in the long run. I also hope I do not get one that grows to a full 15... ;)

It's not the correct way to measure but I've also seen some big dogs that if they weren't raised up and allowed to settle back down they would measure in the 13" class even though they are over 15".....there are owners out there that slam the bar down on their dog's back or Tritronics train them to slouch...I've seen dogs that basically lay down as soon as they get under the bar, if those dogs aren't ever propped up it's no good either.
